    Hello everyone,

My best friend recently had his step mum move in which has put their Household Annual Income in the top bracket meaning he gets the minimum from student finance. This means he would have to live at home and commute but none of the local unis do his course (They are also not very good)

I have a couple of questions about whether you can apply from another address and if anyone else has had this problem.

Firstly, what means do they have of actually checking? If you changed the necessary paperwork would it be possible? What would this paperwork actually be?

Secondly, if he did actually move to another location how long would he have to stay there before he could move back. Could he just live with me for a month?

Thanks to anyone who read this. Any ideas would REALLY help

I am fairly sure the rules when I first applied a couple of years ago said that you had to put your parents income unless you had been living independently for at least 3 years.

unless he can be classed as an independant student, which means either he earned over £7k for 3 years prior to starting his course or is over 25 or is estranged from his parents (evidence needed) then in order to get more than the minimum student finance SF would want evidence of his household income so his plan will not work. the address is irrelevant in determining how much finance you get.

could his dad and step mum not help out at all? if not there is always an overdraft and the possibility of a part time job- this is how many students who only get the minimum loan manage.

or could he move to his mums and get her income assessed if its below the threshold?
