This is a PGCE thread for those starting Roehampton in September 2013. I'll be starting a Primary PGCE (specialising in Key Stage 2 but from what I gather it's a general PGCE and you choose what to specialise in when there) and will likely be living in halls :-)

    Hey,

I'll be starting the primary PGCE at Roehampton then too. I've applied for hall but not too sure where I will be living yet. Have you started doing any preparation for the course yet?

    Hi Laura

I have applied to live in halls too so we might be flat mates! I've not done a great deal of preperation, I have put a few resource sites together and started a small note portfolio that I plan to fill with various bits of knowledge. Have you done much prep?

Helloo! I'm also starting my PGCE in September! I'm doing upper primary so 7-11! I wasn't accepted for halls and am looking for somewhere to live! Is anyone else looking for somewhere/someone to live with?

How did you hear about halls, did you get an email or get rejected because you live within 10 miles of the uni? Looking at my email confirmation it says offers will be made from the end of August?

Also, I'm KS2 as well so see you on the course!

Hopefully! That's if I can find somewhere to live...sadly Roehampton accommodation didn't take into account the 2 hours it takes me to get there from my house!!

I haven't received a reading list yet either. Nor have I received any details about the two weeks observation we need to do before the course starts. Has anyone had a welcome pack?

I emailed about obtaining a reading list a week ago but haven't had a reply as of yet. For the observation do you mean the two weeks experience requirement for thr course? Should that not have been done before interview? Or do you mean the period when we first start the course when it is school observation?

The two weeks that are required as part of the course. Do you know if we can complete this before the end of this school year? Are you specialising in ks1 or ks2?

How can it be part of the course if we don't start the course until after this school year is over? Do you mean the 2 weeks required to actually fulfil the entry requirements? I am specialising in KS2 :-)

I'm also KS2 Have you done any preparation?

I believe for Roehampton they state that the pre course observation is in September but with a lot of other courses it is just before the course starts. I was just wondering if anyone knew whether it has to be done in September or whether it could be done prior to this, as although we don't start until the 12th a lot of schools in my area don't go back early enough for a full week to be completed before we are required to start.

Also, any news on a reading list or welcome pack yet?

Well I shall see you in September then -) I have done some prep but I am still awaiting a reading list, might send another email in a bit actually.

I am afraid I can't say with certainty what the protocol is regarding the observation. I recall seeing a timetable of some sort and it scheduled observation from early until mid September.

Ok we'll I guess we'll just have to wait for the information they are going to send to find out for sure. I need to hand in my resignation at some point so hopefully it will come sooner rather than later.

Have you received an email about going in to uni get your DBS application done?

    Hey,

I'm going to Roehampton tomorrow to get my DBS done too. I'm also doing KS2 but haven't started doing much prep yet as I have no idea where to start.

I think the two week observation has to be done in September - October. I heard that one of the reasons for it is for us to see how the teacher settles in their new class as (hopefully) that will be us the following year!

Really hope we get our placement dates and reading list soon.
