I have an expired passport and I'm sending off for a new one as soon as I can get the form countersigned (I don't live near anyone!!!), so I probably won't have the new passport until after the SF deadline. Is the only other option the birth certificate? I'm hoping my mum still has it lying around somewhere and what does it mean by "(with a countersigned 'birth or adoption certificate form')"? What do I do if I can't sort either

I had to do the same. There is a form (http://www.sfengland.slc.co.uk/media...ert_1314_d.pdf)

You have to send this off with your full birth certificate.

This form must be countersigned (somebody who has good standing in the community etc must verify your ID)

You have to do this because a birth certificate id not absolute proof of ID
