Increase birth rate and tackling an ageing population are both basically the same point

    - I think in Italy they give government subsidies/grants to those who have babies, as this promotes a youthful population as opposed to their current ageing one.
    - They can also use advertising via media to encourage this

One of the implications of an ageing population is a shrinking workforce. So you could look at governments raising the retirement age to expand the workforce to include older generations. AS Edexcel Geography?

I do AQA and in our course we've learnt that governments:
-raise taxes and the retirements age so there is more money for pensions and people need them for less time
    - and also they encourage more immigrants of child bearing age to move to their country and encourage more women to have babies who will later pay taxes and support the elderly

We have also learnt as an example that in France they offer free schooling for children over 3, nursery care for children under 3 that is subsidised by the government, 3 years paid paternity leave for either parent to use and also women are allowed to retire earlier on a full pension the more children they have. These are all incentives to help raise the birth rate!!

    Hope this helps
