I just wondered what people's opinion was of 'The University of London'. I'm referring the body that comprises of the 18 colleges such as UCL, Queen Mary, Kings etc.
Does it have any significance any more as the universities are practically totally independant of each other? Does it just exist for ceremonial purposes? etc

Yes, it's for the peasantry at Goldsmiths, QM or SOAS to think they're relevant whilst the real deals at King's, UCL and LSE chalk at the prospect that we share the same degree, and for Imperial students to laugh at the latter and thank the stars they left 6 years ago.

    J/k

On a serious note, UCL, LSE and (I'm not too sure on this) King's award their own degrees, and all of them are thinking about seceding from the union. Imperial has already done so. However, everyone can use ULU facilities.
