    Hey guys.

I am a prospective mature student who has managed to get a place onto the Access Course. My question for everyone out there is, if I were to do the Access Course and follow it up with STEP 1, would I be accepted onto a Maths degree from a good university. Obviously, I am not looking at the top four but maybe a place like Durham or York? I know the Access course is not as widely accepted among the very best which is why I am considering doing STEP 1 even for unis that do not necessarily require it.

I should add, I was doing a degree in Civil Engineering until dropping out in 2009 so would like to think I would do well in STEP 1.

    Thanks

You would really need to contact the universities you're thinking of applying to as that's a fairly unusual situation.

Whilst much of university level material is quite different from a-level, I don't know much about the access syllabus so it might miss out something important.

STEP relies on a-level material so you'd need to look at that stuff again especially since you haven't covered it since 2009. Also the style of STEP papers is fairly unusual and difficult so it would definitely be worth having a look at them.

It might be better for you to take maths and further maths instead. But ask the universities since they can sometimes be flexible with mature students.
