if an externally moderated assignment has been suspected of plaguerism, then the consequence won't be pleasant. You will probably not get the diploma and get certificates in subjects you pass.

they've got special software which detects this and is obviously pretty accurate.

good luck...

this is not true as checking if the work is the students own is the school resposibility and they are requierd to use this special software if your taliking about IA. but maybe this is the case in stuff like EE and Tok essays.

wow that's harsh
well thanx i was just wondering.. i myself didnt quote and not write the source but was wondering how they wud let you know.. n if anyone's heard of anyone failing because of it yet.. cuz i myself have heard that you would failbut have heard no stories.. Thanx

i find it harsh that once they find u plagiarise in one assessment u can never retake it.. and you will never get your IB diploma.. that'd be too years of your life down the drain.. thats harsh

o so u cant get the diploma.. did she get certificates at least for the other subjects? (probably not huh)?

In my opinion its only fair. I mean - everyone is informed what the rules are, so someone who takes the risk is aware of the consequences and if (s)he still does it it means that... well in my opinion taht this person is kinda weid.
i just found this blog from someone who took the exams last year at http://www.ibscrewed.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7759&highlight=&sid=5dd48e732fb9b8f0a1c1a655c73d57a1 and that person said: "my school makes us submit all our papers to turnitin.com. i submitted my EE and cited everything perfectly and it came up with 37% of my paper was plagerised. oh and FYI turnitin.com highlights the plagerised parts and it was all my quotes."

Now I think i have a reason to be paranoid..
I remember ages ago my school said they were going to buy the turnitin.com software.. i never found out if they did it in the end but i thiink they might have used it to check our EEs and WL essays.. Not sure though.. does that mean IB checks again.. just wondering cuz when you sign that sheet that says that it's all your work, your teacher has to sign it too right.. lol i dunno am just very paranoid i guess.. now that the exams are over i guess i'm just looking for other things to worry about/occupy my time with..

Does IB check the whole essay or parts of it?like my friend said they only put in a few senteces to find out if you plagiarised but someone else said they have special scanners which means they can put your entire essay in to check for plagiarism.... AAAAHHHH stupid paranoia...

Calm down, if it was like that girl wrote and IB would disqualify all such works noone would pass. If you ade it correctly you won't have any problems...
Calm down...last year I basically copied over half (80%????) of my EE from internet, did the same thing with TOK and still managed to pass. I mean I got 0 points for them cause they sucked really bad, but I was more concerned with getting 7 in Math and Physics HL than with my EE. I truly doubt they check every single assignment. You submit it on paper!!! What, they gonna rewrite the whole **** to check if u plagiarized?? Naaa...dont think so. I think each egzaminor checks 10% of what he gets, dunno how though. Cause I wrote from where the quotes where taken (I quoted some parts, and rest of them rewrote changing wording) and if they only bothered reading through this website (or websites, all 3 of them:smile: ) they would defo have some issues about my essay.
But hey, I am all good studying at Imperial so screw them:smile: Dont worry about plagiarism.

Okay, well, for the EE and stuff, my school too has Turn-It-In.com. Many assignments may be asked to be turned in through this system. This, in my experience, has generally been done at random.
In response to the individual that believes the prof's willn't check ever paper to the grind, or go as far as to type it up for submission, believe me, there are some extremesist teachers out there, that may so do, solely out of a whim.
Thirdly, for anyone thinking about plagarising for an exam (well, so far noone has indicated they will, but just in case), i suggest you refrain from doing so. I recall my prof telling us of a student he caught a few years ago. This person had memorised word for word, an essay on the Spanish Civil war. And, as a measure for marking, my professor decided to google it up, for the specific type of question, to get some background reading done. So, as the story goes, this individual had copied word for word an essay, which my teacher realised, and reported this.
Really, all I'm trying to do is emphasize that you shoud NOT plagarise, in any way or form. And this goes doubly for whomever advised doing so for TOK, as their prof. didn't seem to care. But, honestly, bear in mind he did this only to hand something in, and really admits that he got no marks.
LOL. i sound like some overly IB nerd. Ok, well, point made.

Cheers.

They dont really need to type the essays into the computer, they can scan it and there are some pretty good character recognition programs. Thy convert it to text format and then they put it through the checking software.

If you quoted, dont worry about it, i dont think they would fail you for only one paragraph.
ghayer

I didn't really advise to plagiarise:smile: erm....DONT PLAGIARISE!!!
Hey. My supervisor told me that my written task was plagiarized, so around 80% I won't receive my diploma right? But is there any chance that my university would still take me in. Also, my school awards its own high school diploma, so can I request my university and get in through that? I got into a few U.S. universities with an unconditional offer. How will this situation affect my offer?
