Is this a good a level to do since im thinking of doing this at a level? Also if you take English both together is it 1 A level or 2 if they are as 1 course?

It is a good course if you like reading! I chose to do them separately in order to get two A levels, if you take the combined course you will only get one.

I take English Literature as an A level and English language separate as I like to view them as separate subjects as you use different techniques for both so my mindset is different in both classes. Many people take the combined course lit and lang together though. It totally depends on what you want to take apart from that, I only wanted French so I could take the two as separate A levels. Your choice.

I enjoy lit A level because while you're studying the texts, you gain an endless supply of general knowledge. It also can change the way you view society and people in general as often it feels like you're just studying people via the study of how the characters are made. My Eng lang course is worlds apart from my lit course - it's fast paced, more methodical, loads of theorists, more scientific approaches whereas lit is nice and relaxed and creative. Obviously that's just how it is in my college I can't speak for others.

English Literature's a great course but you have to be dedicated and committed to it (I die a little inside every time someone tells me that they've taken English Lit but don't like reading or haven't read the books we're studying!). I'm taking it as a degree (got my place, just need the results now!) so I'm gonna be a little biased but I think that Lit is such a great pathway to learn about history, languages, psychology, politics, even maths and sciences! I think that's why I like it so much...

Soundbite which I should have put at the start but left till the end: if you like reading and like to learn, English Lit is ideal for you!
