    hey

Need some help with writing a report for an experiment..

Mitochondria in which oxidative phosphorylation was uncoupled from was used. the electron transport chain was used as part of a linked assay to measure the efficiency with various substrates.

The two most succesful substrates were succinate and B-hydroxybutyrate.

'In the mitochondrial matrix, beta-hydroxybutyrate is oxidized to acetoacetate. CoA is transferred from succinyl CoA to acetoacetate producing acetoacetyl CoA. The acetoacetyl CoA reacts with another molecule of CoA and becomes two acetyl CoAs. The Acetyl CoA enters the TCA cycle to produce energy.'

I thought of writing the above in my discussion but i just want to confirm if its actually right/relevant?

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

If that is just being written as a basic outline, then its correct. You can enter it, and then explain the krebs cycle (if it isnt part of the main theme, just draw a sketch)

I've already sketched a diagram to show where the substrates get metabolised in relation to the TCA cycle.

But as succinate and B-HO-butyrate were the successful substrates, I would have to discuss why?

What i wrote says that B-OH-butyrate enters the TCA cycle as Acetyl CoA....so i am not too sure how to link that with the electron transport chain? Kind of confused
As the whole experiment was about mitochondrial ETC.
