I didn't really know where best to put this, its not specific to my subject so here seemed best, but feel free to move it.

Anyway, how did you chose your modules for second/third year? Did you know exactly what you wanted to do, so specialized early on, or did you not have a clue and just picked anything you liked etc?

I'm really stuck on picking mine, as I get to pick all of them and I don't know whether to go for the area I'm interested in and just ignore everything else OR pick various modules to keep my options open should I change my mind.

    Help anyone?

I'm also first year biology, I've chosen a bit of a mixture of modules. I think I'm going to go into neuroscience (not 100% sure though). I've picked 2 evolution related modules, one on cell regulation&cancer, one developmental, one genetics, one animal and plant diversity & 2 neuroscience modules. All my modules next year are optional luckily so I was able to get a variety whilst still kinda specialising

Look at the modules in third year that you will have to do, or think you might want to do, and do the prerequisites for those modules. Don't worry about closing off options for modules that you know you don't want to do.

Then consider what options are available for second year. If there's one you really don't want to do, is it worse to do that one or not to be able to do the module you want in third year?

Repeat, and fit into your timetable, until you have something workable.

Thanks for this post, was really helpful :yy:

In the end I sat down and crossed off all the ones in both second and third year that I definitely didn't want to do, and went from there. I do have a fair few modules that are specialized on what I think I want to do but with enough that I can change if I don't want to do microbiology after all.
