    2(d) is correct and I used its value for working out (e). The Mark scheme has taken a different approach and doesn't mention my approach. Is the use of mine still correct?

    You're correct, you should have used the word 'vertical' with the second calculation to ensure you get full marks imo, though you'd done a diagram of a right angled vector triangle you might have been ok.
    It's quite a high mark question, so it's worth really spelling out what you're doing to the examiner to make sure you score the method marks.
