I did Family and Education and thought it went alright. I didn't find anything particularly difficult, although I had no idea what universalistic norms or whatever the definition was for the education paper. It could have been worse e.g asked about the elderly, but I am glad it is over

Congrats!

I did the same modules and also thought it went quite well.

A lot of people were confused about the universalistic norms question as we hadn't even been taught it. It wasn't too hard to venture a guess though considering we knew what norms were. I just defined norms and said something along the lines of it being evident in most societies.

That's Sociology over - yesss... :p:

My teacher had mentioned it once, but never really explained it to us. I like Sociology but it is good to get it out of the way

I really enjoy Sociology, I was going to do it at university, but am thinking of doing History now.

I do World Sociology and Crime and Deviance as A2 modules I think.

Yeah I did the same, family and education. As someone else said, the universalistic norms even if you didn't get taught it were quite easy to work out.

I was quite lucky tbh, alot of the cramming I did this morning for the subject appeared in little questions here and there

I did Health and Education. Universalistic norms were Parsons- he said that they were norms that were a consensus between everyone in society- basically everyone needed them to fully integrate. Did you include that in the part f) essay as well? The bridge between ascribed and achieved statuses, and particularistic and universalistic norms to integrate people?

I didn't find it too bad, especially as I was panicking about health because there is so many different facets to it. I only need 75/105 UMS on each paper anyway (high C?) because I got 90/90 on Unit 3 in January.

One thing I was confused about was what 'market forces' are, I just kinda picked 2 policies from the 1988 Act and explained them a bit, so hopefully I'll get some marks for explanation even if I don't get both policies right.

And my friend from another college said she was doing both Family and Health, how is that possible as they were both on SCY1? Surely you have to do one topic from each paper? Weird.

I should know that, I wrote about Parsons and the bridging the gap between family and the workplace

For the policies one, I put 3 because I wasn't sure one was right, I put League Tables, Ofsted inspections and New Vocationalism

I did family and education too - I had no idea what to write about Market Forces and just jabbered on about the National Curriculum!

I don't think I did too well on the essay questions, I wasn't feeling too well and last night I blacked out in the middle of Tesco's! Not exactly brill preperation for the exam and I felt like my head had been steamrollered this morning - my teacher said if I felt it had hampered my exam then I should get a note from my doctor to send to the exam board. So off I go to the doc and she won't give me one - saying if it was that easy every kid would ask for one, and she had no proof I was ill and should of gone to hospital last night!!!!

Only got Business exam on June 8th and then 2 Economics on June 9th and then all exams are all done! Yay!

I thought the exam was ok but it could have been better the part f question

For the policies one i put league tables and vocationliasam
My unit 3 went better i think but we will see.

the exam went ok. it would have been great if family diversity came up, but overall it was better than some of the past papers i've looked at. i wrote about boules and gintis, bourdieu, functionalists and durkheim with speech codes (was unsure about using this)- basically anything i could relate to the questions somehow. although, the universalistic norms did throw me a bit, it was fairly easy to blag some marks... i hope!

Yeah I didn't have a clue about universalistic norms and wrote a pile of rubbish but noticed it mentioned in item b so I changed my answer.
