    ok iv been offered bbb for exeter and 300points (so bbb) at cardiff.

    im gonna firm accept cardiff so is it worth holding exeter as my insurance at all? or would i just be holding a place which someone else could have?

    You should only put down an insurance choice if you actually like the place, and you wouldn't mind going there. When you get your results, if you don't achieve 300 points for Cardiff, but do achieve the required results for your insurance, you are automatically obliged to go to your insurance choice unless you can contact them and ask them to 'release' you.

    So I would recommend putting down a second choice only if you would be quite happy going to it. It's not as if you're stealing somebody elses place either, because if you don't go there it will just mean somebdy going through clearing can claim your place.

    ah ha! sorry should have read the question properly. You might as well put it down as a second choice then if they're both the same offer and you like both of them. If you happened to miss the entry requirement by a grade, Cardiff might not accept you but then Exeter might do. It depends how many people missed the grade.
