Sociological Career Analysis--mass communications/journalism?
I'm writing a paper for sociology class and this is the instructions my professor gave:
As you will learn throughout this semester, various career fields take advantage of the research capabilities of sociology. Business, education, military, medical and a host of other career fields use sociologists to analyze various parts of their disciplines in order to better understand or make changes to specific aspects of the work. In this assignment, you are asked to take your new-found sociological knowledge and apply it to your own career field. You may choose to broadly discuss how sociological analysis can aid in your profession or you may chose a specific aspect of your career field and analyze it using the theories and methods we’ve discussed in this class.
Writing portion should include:
1. brief description of your career and career goals
2. Specific information on how sociology can be applied to one or more parts of your career and aid in your career goals. This instruction is left vague on purpose as part of the assignment is for you to determine how to apply sociology to your own field.
SO, I'm planning on majoring in mass communcations/ journalism. I want to be like a news reporter/anchor someday.
I think I know where I want to go with this explanation but just to be sure I'd like to get some other feedback. So, can anyone help me out on how sociology can be applied to mass communcations/journalism? Possibly give me examples? Thank you in advance!
