I'm doing my English language GCSE (AQA) and I need an A* in the exam which is 40%, but I have no idea how to revise for it. I have decided to just do the past papers, is there anything else that I could do? What did you do?

I did this exam (AQA, right?) in January, and as well as doing past papers, it'd be a good idea to apply the generic questions (e.g. What do you learn from...?) to any news article. You don't necessarily have to write them - just plan your answer in your head. Do this on a (pretty much) daily basis. Similarly, revise the techniques you've learnt. And when I say revise, I mean learn them off by heart and backwards!
For the writing section, it's a lot more tricky. I personally didn't revise for this - I went in the exam and hoped for the best. But a lot of the people in my class memorized some advanced vocab and my teacher suggested creating a persona for each question. For example, say the question asked you to describe your surroundings. You could make up someone who's a nervous, first-time flyer and absolutely hates their surroundings (i.e. airport) or a little kid who is fascinated by the playground.

I hope I somewhat helped, good luck
yes, AQA. Thanks that helped a lot! What did you get in the exam, if you don't mind me asking?
I have got an A* and full marks on all of my English controlled assessment. I have got my spoken language study CA on Tuesday and I'm not so confident!

Why not? I did that one, it was one of the easier ones. However it was a retake since we messed up in year 9.
Someone help me out please, lost my motivation after that January exam in which I got a C in. Usually I'd get A's and a few B's but I don't know what happened. If anyone has any brilliant resources please let me know

didnt really revise for it as eng is all about technique so I made sure how i'd structure my into, conclusion and paragraphs-use quotes and explain in details. Focus your essay on three -four quotes in detail linking it to several ideas-they want to see how well you anaylse the meaning, the language and the links between ideas not how much you can quote. its all about details. two days before i looked at sample essyas with high marks and nicked quotes and eyes by highlighting them and then used them in my exam by putting it in my own words. I chose quotes which would link to 4-5 chapters so despite the essay title, i'd be able to mould some of them to fit it.
I did AQA
for the poems its all about comparing the two/three or whatever- the techniques used, the language, the meaning and the structure
for the writing to persuade- I used F.O.R.E.S.T -fact opinion rhetorical, emotive language, statistics, rule of three
We are studying the local accent, which I detest, have no knowledge about and do not speak with. The teacher instead of teaching gets sidetracked by an endless amount of anecdotes, most of which are his so I have learnt nothing. I tried to ask if I could write about another accent or idiolect but he was completely indecisive about the whole thing and didn't give me a straight answer. So basically I have been given less than a week to prepare for something I don't know about. Ridiculous?!

Absolutely ridiculous! The first time round we analysed a radio talk show and it was just awful and confusing. Second time we look at a conversation in a orthodontists office and we could say so much, such as the power and status dynamics ....

I just hate the curriculum altogether. It is patronizing and utterly ridiculous and makes me feel like an idiot. I hate my English lessons mainly because of the teacher who everybody else worships as a god but I just view as an unprofessional oaf!

Same here. We changed teachers just before our exams and my new teacher loves himself. He spends half the lesson calling us arrogant and the other half boasting about himself and his designer clothes. He takes all the credit for our exam results, even though he NEVER teaches and ahh... Can't wait for the next 4 weeks to end.

I had a history teacher exactly like that in year 7. He turned out to be a pervert!
I don't even know how these people become teachers. The risk of him being my teacher A level English lit is far too great for me to even consider the subject.
I can't say for sure, but I've got a feeling I lost about 2 on the 16 marker as I had to rush because I was running out of time and then the other 2 on the 24 marker and thank you!
WOW do you remember any of the words you used in the writing part and did you put in loads of really short sentences as well as apparently varied sentence structure is the way to get an a* !? Also did you use loads of semi colons and that and could you tell me when to use commas as I never know where to use them ! CONGRATS ON YOUR AMAZING RESULTS I WOULD BE OVER THE MOON TO GET AN A TO BE HONEST !!!!!
