Novobiocin is very specific for Staphs, and will inhibit them to a high degree.
Amoxycillin is a synthetically produced penicillin with a very broad spectrum - it can kill staphs, streps, e.coli etc, but not as effectively as a properly specific antibiotic could targeted against any one.

So Amoxycillin is good vs all, but novobiocin is very good against just a few - the staphs
