JUST WASH YOUR HAIR !!! why would you make a thread about that !!!

While it's true that hair starts to clean itself after a while, this will not make you popular. Swimming also makes it more greasy apparently. Also, it's just not nice! Walking around smelling like bacon... :p:

My friends think I'm weird because I only wash my hair every four weeks or so. I don't see why it's a problem though, my hair doesn't get greasy easily. I swim a lot as well so surely that washes it a bit? I'm seventeen by the way. Any advice? I'm a bit confused.

if you swim alot I would wash your hair more regularly - chlorine is generally not very nice to hair

  NO!!
Wash at least once a week. I shampoo every day because it gets oily.

If you swim and not wash your hair, surely you'll go around smelling of chlorine all day? How is it possible to shower after swimming without the compulsion to wash your hair as well?

Reply 6

Well it all depends on your hair type - if it doesn't need washing that often then that's fine I suppose....but swimming regularly, surely it smells of chlorine a lot of the time? And the chlorine must damage your hair if you don't wash it out enough? Ask your hairdresser what they think.

Swimming will clean it so it's not really dirty at all but it depends if you want the chlorine in your hair but i guess the chlorine comes out if you just use the shower afterwards.

that's really weird. I wash mine everyday, it goes wild otherwise. Wash your hair.

I'm not intentionally trying to sounmd offensive, but this girl clearly isn't very clean. Regardless of whether you 'need' to wash it, and I'm sure I speak for the majority of people, but most people wash their hair as part of a typical cleanliness routine. I tend to be a bit lazy and won't wash my hair if i'm not going out so pin it up in the shower. But the drawback is that I feel ugly all day.

I could go on forever about how minging you sound.

Greasy hair stinks and chlorine hair's even worse. You are fresh.

If you leave the chlorine in your hair after swimming it'll wreck it. Get washing!

swimming is for recreation, not for hygeine. Don't confuse different types of baths.

Thanks for the replies, although I now seriously doubt my cleanliness :frown: My friends told me that I smell a bit but I thought they were just joking. Coz I didn't tell them that I only shower once a month and I don't use deodorant because it makes my armpits feel sweaty and weird.

Reply 17

I think washing hair once a month is really dirty - mine feels and probably smells really bad if I don't wash it for about 3 days so I wash every day. I'll bet sitting around you is not a pleasant experience.

Wash it more often!

Reply 18

Agreed- you probably want to wash your hair more than that because chlorine can be really damaging to your hair. When you swim, it's a good idea to use a clarifying shampoo once a week; chlorine will build up in your hair, causing it to look oily, so a clarifying shampoo is good for removing that. (At least, a clarifying shampoo was really helpful for me when I swam year round.) Washing your hair really only adds a few extra minutes, so I would do it more than once every four weeks- your hair will look alot healthier.

Also, if deoderent makes your armpits feel sweaty, you might want to try a prescription deoderent. It's a topical formula, meaning that wherever you apply it, you are not going to sweat at all. Alot of people wear prescription deoderent; I would talk to your doctor about it.
