STEP Marking

I was wondering how much credit do you get for solving questions partly. Surely it depends on question and the bits you have done. But assuming that the question has two parts which are independent and both being equally difficult. Doing one correctly will get me half of the mark?
I'd very much appreciate for any guess about marks i'd roughly get for the following:
For Q5 ( 2012) if I did first two integrals and used the required substitution x=u+pi/4 but then got stuck getting the required form to use earlier parts.

Q2 (2009 ) Up to finding p,q,r,s.

Q6 ( 2009 ) Everything apart from ( ii ).

I am just trying to figure out whether its better to spend more time on partly solved problem trying to get the final solution or I better just move on to other questions and do the bits I can.
