This is EXACTLY the same as what happens to me. The Maths seems to be fine for me its just the questions where you have to comment in context or explain why.

There was a question where it said why this data is not likely to be normally distributed? (2marks)

And the answer was

The data is not symmetric thus it is unlikely to be normally distributed

I understand it but seriously how was I suppose to know that was the answer :|

It's really simple

At first you have 3 choices either labour, conservative, lib dem + other

At the Second you have 2 choices either conservative or lib dem+other

At the final you have 1 choice

3X2X1=6

So you multiply your probability by 6

Can you explain, in very plain English to someone who detests statistics because she's hopeless at it, the Central Limit Theorem, when it can be used and when it need not be used?

I'm afraid I'm self studying and this CLT completely foxes me.

And the mean (U) of it is normally distributed (mean U, variance/n)

And you just normalise the probability you want (:

Yes CLT was used quote your sample
Size say ==> n>30 (that's your reason)

I'm sure I've seen times when the mark scheme (AQA SS1B) says no it was not used. If I can find an example I'll post it and see what you think.

If its state why the use of CLT was not necessary?

Whatever your variable e.g weight of flour etc is normally distributed

im a2 s1 is basically an easy version of s4/s5 so practically been doing s1 all year and last year i got a B in s1 in jan but going for full ums this time round, got an A in s4 and thats alot harder compared to s1 so who knows :tongue:

Btw can you help with Q2(c) Jan 2011 paper I understand how it is 0.026 for 2 marks , but why do we need to multiply by 3 or 6 for the other 2 marks ??

And how did they get an answer of 0.155 (to 0.157) ?
