Ignorance of tick-borne Lyme disease 'costing lives' Areas of woodland can harbour ticks When Joanne Drayson regularly walked her dogs in the woodland near her home in Guildford, Surrey, she was unaware that a tick the size of a poppy seed would infect her with a serious and debilitating disease.
I've heard of people who've caught lymes disease and literally had to battle with their doctor to get treated properly. If it was just lymes disease it wouldn't be a problem but many charities offering advice on illnesses have sections on dealing with difficult doctors to help people get treated highlighting a deeper ingrained problem in the profession.

Gerald Ratner, chairman of Ratners', Britain's biggest jewellery chain, infamously committed one of the top gaffes in business by admitting that his own products were "crap". Today, NHS doctors and nurses echo his sentiments as they admit that they wouldn't recommend to their dearest and nearest the "crap" hospitals they work in.
This isn't an argument for privatisation either.
