Have you been trying to get a more "off the record" opinion of where you plan to go this coming September/October? Are you, like me, finding it EXTREMLEY hard to find someone to talk to about it?
If so let me know and if you're a student currently at LCC (or P) then pleaseee tell me what the freshers' week is like. I want to know.
All I know is there are occasional events at like the Ministry and the Fridge

groovy doovy!!! hmmm well, first ordinary questions about general nightlife? I went there with a friend (just during the day though) and we completely fell in love with it, but is there anything other than uni organised stuff to do??

is there a pool/leisure center?? im not a sports freak (at all!!) but i do like to swim, is it far away?

what are the buses like? are they generally expensive? we caught one from the campus to the center of town, and that was about 1.10 single! is that normal? or am i just being skinflinty thinking it should be cheaper??

Are there any cheap studenty shops?? ie clothes shoes etc?

how far away are the supermarkets?? i assumed they wouldn't be in the center but are they miles away?? (imagining carrying heavy shopping loads back from the asda in the sky!!)

cant think of any more right now, thanks in advance!!!!!

Ok nightlife, there are 4 nightclubs and 2 club bars which are basically like nightclubs but more towards a flashy late licence pub, there are hundreds of pubs in York and there is the infamous Micklegate run, as a student I am sure you will know this when you regularly go out on the night. One of the nightclubs has a pay entrance fee and drink all you can for free on a Thursday. Pubs vary a lot there are the typical night out pub or the specialist pubs with loads of offers and theme, like 80’s or 70’s style. If you are into indie music there is the legendary Fibbers pub that has live bands and every so often brings famous people or would be famous.

Leisure activities, well the Barbican centre is almost near University, there you will find swimming pools, gyms, climbing walls and other typical sports facilities. There is also a bowling alley a bit far from university but the bus does run there regularly.

Buses, yes I found them expensive too 1.10 for a single and 2.10 for a day return, I compared it with the ones in London and they where only 60p for a single, I was shocked when they charged me that amount to travel a couple of miles. The town is full of busses and basically they run a service for every place in York.

Cheap student shops, well I know there are expensive ones but I am sure there are also some cheap one, not counting supermarket clothes; I am sure that there town is full of student discounts for almost everything, most of the time I just ask.

About the supermarkets I can’t say much as I don’t shop or live near the university but I am sure they would have strategically placed some mini markets near the university, although come to think about it, I think there is a supermarket less than 1 mile away from the central campus.

York is a very tourist orientated town, you can almost compared it like a mini Oxbridge as the town architecture is very old, it has city walls and the biggest medieval cathedral in Europe also it has the notorious haunted pubs that date back from 16th century. Another thing that York has is museums and nice ones, the world famous Yorvik museum, the national railway museum biggest one in England and also the garden museum which is next the York abbey nice place to study in summer or contemplate the peaceful riverside scenery or watch the copycat boat race like Oxbridge.

Any more questions don’t hesitate to ask, if want more detail then you have my info on my profile for further contact.
