Sociology AS Unit 1 Culture and Identity May 13 2013

Good luck to anyone who sat this exam feel free to use this thread to discuss answers for culture and identity. My answers were 1 commercialization is turning a process into one that revolves around money and things they have to pay for. 2 mass culture is absorbed by everyone regardless of class and that is free of the negative stigma surrounding pop culture and that some actually view it as a good thing. 3 difference in free time, physical capabilitys and men have more free money than women. 4 Marxists feminists and the 2 non structural. In 5 I messed up as I didn't apply the perspectives to the types of socialisation and only mentioned the basics of their ideas at the end. Was getting bs in mocks but feel I didn't do as well in this. If you have time plz tell me the marks from each section and if not how you got on thx

I started by talking about the Marxists and their view that identity is formed by class applied this to different institutions followed by 2 criticisms. Then I talked about feminism Anne Oakley and the criticism from postmodernists. Then post modernism and interactionism and how they disagree with the idea that major institutions dictate to us our identity plus a criticism. In conclusion I said class has become less prominent over time but is still amongst other things an issue. What did you put for that and all the other questions so I can see if I was along the right lines

in the last question (socialisation), i talked about marxists view on education, media and religion. then challenged it with the functionalists view on education, media and religion.
