How has everyone decided which uni to go for for their pgce course?

Does reputation of the uni matter much?

And what does specialising in a subject do? I heard if you specialise, you can become head of department. Is that true?

I have offers atm - one uni where the name is okay but I can specialise and the other uni with quite a high reputation but I can't specialise in anything.

Hellp!!

I have accepted my place there  Have you decided yet? x

I think i'm going to go BGU, I haven't accepted yet though I just want to be sure haha. Got my letter and box through today so now it all seems real! x
PLEASE HELP: Does anyone know if there is a limit of the number of times you can reschedule your skills test?

I have passed my Literacy however have rescheduled my Numeracy a few times because of work commitments.

I need to reschedule one last time however am worried that I will be penalised.

Let me know if anybody knows the answer - thank you!
Hi, just wondered if anyone has had an interview at University of Birmingham for secondary (preferably maths)? If so, how long did the day last and have you heard back?

Thank you both! Just worked it out! It says I need to wait for a letter to find out the conditions though
I'm so happy! Someone thinks I'm suitable to be a teacher! This has been such a long time coming I'm so excited!!! I'm still worried I've been mixed up with someone else! I will be less worried when I get the actual letter though

Yeah exactly and as you only have 3 chances you want to give it your best shot!

It doesn't say anywhere that there is a limit that you can reschedule AND surely they wouldn't let you do it on the website if you weren't allowed.

Hey all,

I am applying for Secondary Physical Education PGCE and have an interview in a week on Thursday at London Metropolitan. I was declined for interview by Greenwich, missed Brunel due to waiting forever for referees, and didn't apply to St.Mary's as I unfortunately have a D in Science GCSE. I am also awaiting a response from UEL.

Is anyone else applying for PE PGCE in London?

Look forward to hearing from you! Good luck to those of you who are waiting for interviews/offers and Congratulations to those who have already got offers!

I also rescheduled my numeracy skills test a ridiculous amount of times due to work/uni/family commitments, I am sure it's fine! Good luck!

Well done! What age phase are you going to do? I've chosen 3-7. When is your skills test?

First interview for primary tomorrow... nervous does not describe it! I first found out I had the interviews in December and was itching to get them done, but now I'm dreading it! Anyone have some general advice for me? It's for a local SCITT in Redcar and Cleveland so I don't think I've seen anyone on here who has applied, but general advice is always good.
Hi guys, in desperate need of some advice. I'm getting ready to send my application off. However just realised that my personal statement doesn't include any information about skills I have gained on unrelated jobs. Most of it talks about my motivation to teach/why I want to teach, and my work experience (reflecting on what I did and how this reaffirmed my decision to teach at the primary level), as well as a little bit about how my education so far relates to the primary curriculum.

Do I need to include anything about my skills? I.e. ICT, team work, organisational etc? I'm not sure how I would fit that in if that's the case, as I had to cut a lot to get it to fit into the box on ucas as it is.

So stressed and panicking. I really want to get on to the course.

I wouldn't worry so much about your unrelated skills. Your personal statement is to show that you are suited to teaching and they understand that we are very limited on words. I would talk about your further skills at interview stage.

I would also try and get your application off ASAP as some courses are closing if they are already full.

Good luck with it all, as long as your showing your passionate about teaching and have the relevant skills/grades then there is no reason why you shouldn't be offered an interview (where you can then prove yourself further).

Unrelated skills are unrelated. No point mention them when you have other priorities. You should also include how your education/degree is relevant to your subject matter (if you are doing secondary) or teaching as a whole (if you are not doing secondary). Mention what you learned from your work experience and could you apply that to teaching.
