I am currently studying at college to go to Uni in 2014, and this decision to go to uni has only been decided very recently, so I'm fairly clueless on a lot of things:
    1) Do mature students apply the same way non-mature students would?
    2) Why do people choose to live in Halls for the first year if there are cheaper alternatives (e.g. private).
    3) I remember in school people were undergoing the UCAS process in early summer in preparation for the following year, but my college tutor has told me that I won't have to apply till January (the same year of enrollment). This seems like a very short time frame and I'm confused. Is it because I'm studying a BTEC??

    Thanks

    1) Yes.
    2) I've applied for accommodation at university because, as I say, it's one less to thing to worry about and I see it as the easiest way to settle into university life. Go private if that's what you want though because, as you say, it can be cheaper and sometimes it can be a rather significant margin.
    3) The deadline for equal consideration applications is usually in the second week of January, so you'll be applying before the deadline. I imagine the college wants to leave it so late because then they have more time to do references and help with applications.
