Logs help

Hi I am currently revising for ocr core 2 and I don't understand logs. I have tried mymaths, revision guides, and many exam papers but still find them confusing. Sorry for double thread but my first one has been deleted for some reason.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

5^(3w-1) = 5^(3w) /5

Is that any help as a starter?

My calculator won't work out 4^(250) so I think if you have the same problem, you'll have to look at ways of breaking that down too.
