Hi I wanted a little help with my application, i am very stuck. i am on the section where i am entering my dads income details, it asks for gross income however, because my dad is self employed he says he is unable to provide a gross income. after researching online i found that you have to enter the net profit for self employed people, would i enter this sum in the box where it asks for the gross income? Also, is asks for 'benefit in kind' however i dont know what this is nor do my parents, does this mean it is irrelevant to self employed people as my dad has never come across this? Also at the end of the section it asks do you have any other income you have not informed us of? and it says choose yes if you are self employed and takes me to another section. does this mean i enter all details here? sorry for the long message i hope it made sense, your help would be greatly appreciated thank you

    Hi KKN,

Yes you can enter your Dad's net income into the gross income box.

Benefits in kind are applicable to employed and self employed people, there's information about these here: http://bit.ly/10IlGlg

Your Dad should fill in the self employed section but only the questions that are relevant to him.

    Hope this helps!

Ok, well i asked help from some one else who also understands the application who told me to put the figure 0 in the gross income box and put my dads full net income in the 'amount earned from self employment' box, is this not correct then? because he has no gross income and all his income comes from self employment..

    Hi KKN,

I've had a look at the form again and yes your Dad should put the net income into the 'amount earned from self employment' box. Sorry for the confusion!

    Thanks,
    Mark-Lee
