That's okay! How many minutes did you go for?
I've only just started going for myself so I've got a bit of a tan for a ball and I'm already looking browner

As for the cancer thing - practically EVERYTHING gives you cancer.

The shortest time availlable was 4 minutes so I went on for that, and it was surprisingly ok. I'm going again on Friday and I'm gong to carry on going twice a week until I've got the colour I want then cut down enough to maintain it, which is what they recommended at the salon. How long do you go on for?

I'm going in for 6 minutes about twice a week atm. Been fine so far and I'm loving having a bit of colour!

6 minutes would be too much for me I think - to go dark brown with red hair would just look wonrg - hence I'm after a "light" tan

You probably wouldn't go dark brown with your complexion though..

Exactly - that's why I'm after a light tan - just enough to make me look pretty and not like an albino!

I mean, you won't go dark brown, no matter how much you go on them, so its not like you need to worry about how long you're on them with respect to that.

Reply 26

Exactly  Finally someone who understands that I won't be going on night and day because I'll never go dark brown - therefore there would be no point

I would wear sunscreen! But have you considered a spray on tan? My friend gets it done and it looks great- alot more natural than I would have thought! Plus, spray ons are alot safer!

Spray-on tans wouldn't look natural on me though as I'm a red-head and therefore I get lots of freckles...

How much are you all paying to go on sunbeds? I've never been before either, but want to get rid of the bottle white look and my local place has 4 mins for £1 on monday mornings....just wondered what I can expect to pay normally? x

Reply 30

I pay £15 for 60 mins.

Reply 31

It completely depends on the tubes though, at mine the longest you can go on at once is 12 minutes and you can build up a good tan just by going for 3 mins 2-3 x a week.

Reply 32

Mine is £3 for 4 mins which I guess isn't too bad. I don't go on for any longer as I think I'd roast!

Reply 33

Mine is £2 for 6 minutes ^_^

Lol maybe mine isn't such good value after all :p: :hmpf:

Mine is £5.75 for 15 minutes, £6.00 for 20 minutes and £6.25 for 25 minutes. Does anybody else get red patches on their skin (particularly legs) after using a sun bed, which go away after about 20 minutes? Or is that just me? lol. x

Woah you go on for 15 minutes AT A TIME? kerazy..hmm i used to go on them but then stopped for a couple of months cause i was worried cause theres skin cancer in my family, but im goin on holiday in just under two weeks so im planning on having about 4 or 5 sessions on a sunbed before i go to build up abit of a tan! Would probably go on for like, 5 minutes at first and then build up a minute or two more each time..i think thats what i used to do! Cant even remember though, the longest i ever had was about 8 minutes! round here its pretty much 50p per minute. About the red patches..are they hot to touch? I got that once when i went on for abit too long, i got home and moisturised throughly and it was fine teh next day, i think i had burnt myself though cause i was pretty pale then. the redness did go away quite fast, like an hour or some3thing but i knew id been on too long! think it was were the rest of me was browner, so that was fine, but it was like the top of my legs that got burnt which were white cause of bikini. Make sure you go on wearing a cream of some sort, they usually provide them sometimes free and there just a moisteriser, or sometimes there around a pound or two for a sachet. The last time i bought a sachet one i was REALLY happy, it really worked and its worth the extra money. Do people find some places they go are stronger than others? And has anyone been in the stand-up ones..i hate them SO clostrophobic and my goggles always fall off!

I was told that going on the sunbeds/booth can actually help if you have low levels of vitamin D like me, as we get most of our vitamin d from the sun and unfortunately we don't see much of it here lol. I wad in one of the boots today for the first time ever for 6 minutes. It felt great :-)

I want to start going on sunbeds but I'ma bit confised about a couple of things:

1. What do you wear when you're actually on the sunbed?

2. Do you have to put suncream on before you go?

I know they're really dumb questions but I really would appreciate some answers! Thanks xxx

1 - It is entirely up to you. You can go in completely naked or underwear or just pants. Personally, I wear my knickers simply so I can compare afterwards my skin that has been exposed to the UV rays and the skin underneath the knickers!

2 - No you don't wear suncream. Just moisturise to help your skin to develop a tan easier.

I tend to when the sun bed has been used immediately before me as the subbed is SO much hotter than if it hasn't been used in a while!!
