International Business... Advice..

Hellooo

I'm currently in the middle of my AS Exams, and getting ready to apply for Uni's in the autumn. I've taken a liking to the BsC International Business Degree as it appeals to me with the year abroad n the like.. and being interested in Business.

However, i don't know where the best place to apply for would be.. Aston do it, and they're looking as one of my favourites so far with regards to reputation and where its based. Loughborough also do it. I have also got appointments at opening days at Liverpool, UWE, NTU. Liverpool looks good and the City is nice, but i don't know how the reputation of it is for Business. I really don't know where would be best to take it.

Are the Uni's i've listed any good, and the degree itself? I would love to spend one of my years in the US or Australia, so could any students who take International Business tell me if they got to choose where they went too..

Im currently taking Business Studies, Applied ICT, English Language, and Law at AS. Im dropping Law next year as i can't stand it, i'm aiming for ABB at A2 really..

Any help will be much appreciated.. O i am also certain i don't want to Study in London or Manchester to so they're out of the question, and Oxbridge is out of my reach realistically. Any help will be appreciated x

I applied for International Business degrees for the same reason, and also because it looks good on a CV etc. I looked around many universities and chose to do International Management with American Business Studies (AAA) at Manchester, which is a very respectable course at a top uni in the country. and i also get to spend a year in a top uni in the usa or canada which sounds great.

Birmingham also offer good International Business courses. I advise for you to aim as high as you can!!

I looked at the course for Manchester and it did appeal to me, but i seriously doubt i will get 3 A's. Birmingham isn't an option as they want a grade at GCSE maths on the Higher paper, even though i got a B on the intermediate..

I've got opening days at the following planned:

NTU
Liverpool
UWE

Im looking to book appointments at:

Aston
Loughborough

I really need to know how employers would look at an International Degree from Liverpool or NTU or Aston as they look to be my favourites so far (Opening days may change this though..) Basically my first post explained it all.

- Cheers for the comment on the American Studies one, but i just find if i set myself a target of AAA it is unrealistic.

I put Liverpool as my 2nd choice for international business and Durham business as my first. Liv's course looks great as you can study abroad and the modules arent full of boring accounting like many unis.
Doesn't Bath have a few good International Business degrees? Warwick too?

They do, but alot of there courses are AAA like Manchester, and i personally don't feel im capable of setting that as a target as i think it's a tad unrealistic for myself.
Aston & Loughborough eh? Well, with your 'predicted' grades & subjects then I think you are on the right path. Why don't you want to study International Management at Manchester though?

I would but i don't feel i would make the grades, ABB is a high target for myself as it is, which i feel is managable if i put alot of work in.. (thats the plan hopefully)

Are Aston and Loughborough respected in the Business world? Also Birmingham.. These are the three that look like the most likely candidates for me at the moment, still plenty of time to decide though (And opendays)

Also anyone do this Degree... do you enjoy it, where did you get to go?, where do you do it at?, did you get to choose where you go..

I'm really hoping of a year in the US.. i would study there but cannot finance it. :frown:

You might aswell apply to Manchester anyway, you might get an offer. However, Aston is a respected Business school & Loughborough is also an increasingly good Business school which is building its reputation & links with the Industry. Loughborough, from what i've seen have some of the best industry placements e.g. Rolls Royce, Microsoft etc.

University of Surrey students take one year working in industry in business management (marketing, finance whatever) and they are encouraged to go overseas. I am not sure how its funded but since on your year out you do a proper management job and get paid the full rate, I guess that pays for it. The scores are something like 320 points for Surrey. I don't know how many do go overseas or whether this is Europe and/or the states. They go in the third year, and come back for the final year.
i wanna do international business aswell and im lovin aston ive found out employers love graduates from aston and its climbin d tables so fast its got loadsa facilities especially with its new business revamp and that so aston is defo my first choice
Bath offer a really good course if you're studying a language to A2 level too. Infact, it's my firm choice for 06 entry! International management and Spanish. (Offer: AAB).

I looked at Birmingham, loved the uni and wanted to put them as my insurance, but they changed all their courses after the prospectus had been released, and at the open day, the department all seemed really disorganised to me!

I also applied for the same course to: Leeds, Southampton, Sheffield, Leicester.

But yeah, GO INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT! haha
