UKIP leader Nigel Farage has been escorted away from demonstrators in a police riot van during a campaign trip in Edinburgh. He was heckled whilst promoting his party in Edinburgh.

Firstly, he took refuge in a pub. But it was then surrounded by protesters so he decided to make his way by going in a taxi. The taxi's path was then blocked by protesters, so he was driven away in a police van while protesters shouted 'scum' at him continuously.

Protesters were calling him 'racist' and telling him he 'should get back to his own country'.

I'm not a fan of Farage, but I have to say that this kind of protest never achieves anything except to make you, and others on your side of the argument, look stupid. It just discredits you.

Agreed. I don't like Farage either but demonstrations like this not only make the pro-EU argument look stupid but also fuel the anti-EU side.

I bet most of the people calling him scum don't know a single thing about UKIP.

This wasn't a pro-EU demonstration it was a gaggle of "anti-racists" telling him to go back to England

Racist - Married to a German (Also told to go back to where he came from)
Fascist - Trying to a promote a return to democracy.
Homophobe - Didn't agree with Gay marriage like an awful lot of people including gay people.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were SNP supporters there as they'll be concerned about loosing some of the protest vote if UKIP picks up up here.

Oh the Irony. Do these muppets who protest have a clue about what they're arguing about?

Looks like the Yes campaign just took a bullet in the foot. No doubt someone will spin this to portray all pro-independence Scots as English hating xenophobes. Genius! :ahee:

One of the dangers of his 'anti-politics' ideal: if you act like a normal bloke down the pub, you're opening yourself up to arguments with other normal people in the pub, even if they are all activists. LibLabCon leaders would never be that exposed in public.

5 seconds of reading the comments section on the Scotsman newspaper will affirm this.

How are the Scottish media taking to it?
    Google it.

He turned up, a small number of people demonstrated. Quite impartial.

Naturally the comments pages are buzzing with the open minded CyberNAT community coming out with thinly veiled anti English rhetoric, but that's basically because they see UKIP as a threat to the SNPs protest vote. Ironic as up until quite recently the SNP were dead against joining Europe.

why exaggerate? i've seen no polls suggesting anything like that.

most of the people who care about marriage will naturally oppose a parody of it.
if there is "support" then it'll be mostly from people who don't care about marriage in any shape or form.
others will be intimidated into agreeing by the gaystapo yelling "homophobe" at them but will still disagree in private.
then there's the miniscule % of trouble makers who think it'll somehow make homosexuals more accepted in society. well, they're wrong, look at france.

That is democracy. But that wouldn't be politics if all parties agreed with the same things, and it wasn't exactly massive overwhelming support.

This is amusing, no I personally wouldn't go to the effort and risk of wasting/losing my voice because of him but you know I empathise a lot with those who did...

I'm sorry, but I couldn't even get past this line of your post.
"German" is a nationality, not a race.

Oh, and after watching the video you linked, I've gotta say I am actually a lot more impressed with the protesters than I thought I would be.
    Also, "I'm protestant - a persecuted minority".
    Wat.
