Hey - I just wanted to post this thread so I could get some advice, and perhaps prepare for the worst.

basically, I'm failing at uni. I'm trying, but it's just not working, and now I feel like I've wasted my time, and my parents money. I'll be lucky if I even make it out with a 2:2 in computer science, maybe an ordinary degree, as opposed to an honours.
I've always wanted to study animation, but the course I've applied to wants a 2:1 and I don't know what's going to happen, now.

I guess I'm just looking for advice on what to do next...? Because the future looks grim right now.

Are you in your final year?

Well getting a 2.2 is not the end of the world. Some masters courses will still accept you.

A lot of grad schemes use the 2.1 filter but not all. Even then grad schemes are far from the norm for the majority of students. Only a tiny number get onto grad schemes and they are extremely competitive.

Career wise you just need experience under your belt. Your degree is kinda meaningless for the vast majority of job applications except for being a good source of examples for competency questions.

On the other hand could you not produce a portfolio of animation work presuming you already have some interest in that area.

    yeah, I'm in final year.

I just feel frustrated. yeah, I'm also really worried about my job prospects, but from what you've said, it's not too horrible. yeah, I have a bit of artwork saved up over the years, and I'm making some new pieces for my application. I guess I'll just see how it goes.

I think my real issue is just letting my parents down - I think that's something I have to deal with on my own.
