    Hi, I've drawn a diagram of the question but can't see which direction the reaction forces at the hinge are acting. If I know this I think I can solve it.

    Here is the question:

    XY and YZ are uniform rods of equal length smoothly pin-jointed at Y. They are hinged to a horizontal beam at X and Z respectively, and hang below the beam with angle XYZ =90 degrees. The rod XY has weight 8N and the rod YZ has weight 12 Newtons. Find the vertical and horizontal components o the force from the pin at Y on the rod XY.
