I am just finishing off my AS art coursework and have to write an essay on this painting by Giacomo Balla, but am a bit stuck for things to say
What sort of things do you see in this painting?
So far I think the geometric yellow stripes are like shards of glass or beams of light and sound.
I am a bit clueless when it comes to writing, I am a lot better at the art side....it is called art after all not english hehe!
Any contribution will be greatly appreciated.

he seems to be decomposing movement and light as he moves away from concrete futurism towards total abstraction ?

Not sure if you've handed your work in but i'll have a go (it'll be more from a sociological perspective though)
So you have various shapes with different dimensions and depth which could represent the chaos of modern life, such as people being too busy to stop and think, mobility (the act of moving) and risks (e.g. technologies can create risks e.g. phone hacking or organising a terrorist attack through mobile phones or Facebook).
The colours represent moods such as the blue and pink are hopeful, happy colours (also femininity and masculinity). Whereas the black represents abyss, danger or death (again a factor of chaotic contemporary life). Like you said the yellow could be beams of light perhaps representing the future (and black as the past, blue as the present).
The varying shapes could represent people, e.g. the shapes in the middle could be bystanders or followers of the crowd as they are in a line, where as the yellow, pink and blue lines could be authoritative fast moving people.
The wavy lines could be uncertainty.
Oh my gosh! This makes me sound like a crazy person. I hope it helps in some way if you haven't already handed it in and its not too obscure. Even so, it helped me to think about sociological concepts for my exam tomorrow haha!

looks like an eye. The eye is looking towards a dark and distrubed world , the rays from the eye are red showing the persons anger/ frustration. However among all this there is some yellow bright light. The yellow light intersects the madness/ anger. The yellow light sems to come from above..I don't know where I;m going with this so I;ll just stop
eugh I used to hate having to do this sort of thing for GCSE English. You just keep thinking 'The writer properly just wrote it without even analysing all this stuff so much'

Wow..wish I have taken Art!
Are you allowed to ask ideas from others?
