How exactly are porn companies still in existence? Watch

Everyone and their humping dog knows that there are many free porn sites which cater to just about every need, hugely perverted or not, and that they are always having new videos added. They should also know that porn is produced by companies that need paying and so must do so in the form of sales made to subscribers. My question is, who the hell is doing the subscribing? The quality of paid porn will not (men will agree that it cannot) be better than free porn and so the only theory that I have is that a few rich benevolent people have decided to buy a **** load of subscriptions to keep the industry thriving and keep it so that one's recorded sexual activity doesn't have to be one of only a few humans available to watch doing dirty deeds; freshness is what keeps this game going.

What are your thoughts and please, don't admit that you pay for porn as I can't even pretend that I would understand?

Quite a bit of stuff originates from paid sites, someone will pay for it at some point then seed/upload it for everyone else, just like other industries there's not a whole lot porn companies can do about that.

Evidently enough people do pay for it for it to be a viable business. I suppose those pay per view tv channels are one example, but I agree...I don't see the logic in paying for it, but..someone has to.

There is a difference between subscription and free porn (I don't know from experience, its all the adds, I swear ) in that subscription is more up to date, longer, ect.. Obviously there are some people who like porn that much that they will pay for it, most subscription are only a few £ a month so it is hardly a big investment. I imagine its useful for people with niche tastes as it is easier for them to find.

There are quite a few 'niche' markets in porn if you catch my drift, and its easier to access quality material through a subscription than dig through tube sites for the stuff.

How are the music and film industries still alive?

Enough people are still paying for something. I assume not everyone likes 240p pixel porn, and not everyone uses illegal download sites.

Because porn companies have small costs. The only thing they need is decent(ish) looking women and maybe a HD camera. The guys in it, would probably still be there if they only got paid a tenner.
Then their is the advertising and thats it.

Why do you think only men watch porn? Something like 70% of women have watched it IIRC

People just prefer paying instead of going through the hassle of attaining it for free ( sometimes this is even impossible) , generally when you pay you get a higher quality product.

What makes you think everyone is aware of free porn sites?

If you type free porn into google, you'll see the paid sites.

    This.

If I'm watching porn, I'm not trying to see Mark and Becky's sextape made on an iphone in a poorly lit room with awful curtains.

If you go on a certain forum called porn something dot com (I'm not naming the site as I don't want to get banned on here but if you're smart you'll put 2+2 together, it's a forum genius) it'd show you that there are still a lot of willing paying customers out there. And seriously, when will you ever hear that someone pays for porn, its sad and embarrassing, no ones gonna admit to that.

But yeah, the porn industry has definitely been hurt by piracy.

Porn companies actually have larger costs than you think. They need a great camera, microphones, sound mixing, cost to make sets/rent the places, make up and then paying the cast. Cast members get paid a $few hundred to a $few thousand.

Also OP, there's porn conventions which draw in revenue too.

Watch and watched are different things.

Most would describe themselves as having watched something as if you've seen something once most would that's having watched it.

Saying I watch porn is different as it refers to you doing it multiple times and generally having a habit of doing it as in it is an activity that you frequent. Thus less people would of said that they watch it as opposed to watched.

No that only describes amateur porn.

What about the scenes from the bigger companies? Are you honestly telling me that's all they really need? Think about corporations such as Brazzers, NaughtyAmerica etc? Directors? Producers? Cameramen? Editors? Etc etc.

Tbh, I don't understand why the majority of free porn sites (illegal) haven't been shut down as a result of litigation, as I'm sure that all porn production houses have clauses in their T&Cs that prevent piracy.

EDIT: In relation to the original question, I guess some major porn companies sell merchandise too, but I guess that wouldn't be a major income stream. I guess, as others have mentioned before me, advertising must be a large income stream.

Lets face it, they're not exactly going to be making the next Avatar.
I was probably over simplifying but their costs are still going to be relatively small enough to stay in business with just a small number of subscribers.
