Wtf is the point of this post? There are also a lot of very dim people in the world. That doesn't make dimness 'good'.

I'm just stating it's better than a pass or an HND; I know people with the latter who have got onto good jobs (and some who haven't).

And with regards to those that I know with 2:2, 3 of them have got a good job out of it and I know another (not my friend but a relative) who has also got a good job out of a 2:2

You're assuming that the Oxbridge admission process is watertight, and that everyone who is there deserves to be there. I very much doubt that is the case. Even the interview (which is supposed to make the admissions process more accurate by sorting out those who are good on paper from those who would do well in a tutorial system) can quite easily be argued to merely favour confident candidates with good interpersonal skills. Many candidates who could do very well at the university cannot feel comfortable enough with strangers in a 20-minute interview to really demonstrate what they're capable of. Likewise, a less able but more confident student may present better answers. 20 minutes (possibly times 2) really isn't enough time to gauge the talent of someone at a transitioning time in their life (17-19).

Of course, most people who are there do deserve to be there! But if someone doesn't even manage to get a 2:1, then they are probably less intelligent than their interviewers thought.

At the very least they will have top grades so your argument is invalid. Yes other factors are involved but all the candidates have the academic capability to score good grades to even get an interview in the first place. This point doesn't really bare any relevance to the discussion and to add to that, interview processes for jobs will be similarly biased towards people who can carry themselves well in an interview. That's just the system.

If you get 3A* you should be able to get a 2:1, unless you picked a subject not well suited to your talents. In which case it's still your own fault.

Anyway in reality if we were recruiters faced with a LM 2.1 and a Oxford 2.2, we'd probably just move on down the massive pile of CVs and not bother looking at either. Bad times for graduates!

Ha - fair point!

Probably because a lot of the general public have never heard of Imperial.

Then it's a catch22!

Don't mention Imperial because not many have heard of it.

Why have many not heard about it? Because it's not mentioned much!

This is precisely why the "top" in any survey, be it unis, films, songs, etc. in world league tables aren't really "top" at all, merely most well known (and Engllish speaking).
It's probably not mentioned much because it's a STEM specialist university.

And to be honest only Oxford and Cambridge are mentioned a lot in the media.
