Imperial Msc Soil Mechanics

Hi guys! Anyone else here got an offer for MSc Soil Mechanics starting Sepember 2013??
Hi! I'm starting MSc Soil Mechanics and Eng Seismology at Imperial in September! I'm going for the part time option though so will only be there for the first term.

Looks like the maths is going to be pretty solid, did they mention to you to crack on with studying before we turn up?

Hi Richard! I am also attending the Eng Seismology course. I was warned about the maths but I am focusing on some basic soil Mechanics for now. Did they suggest any maths textbooks?

Ah cool, haven't really thought about the seismic stuff tbh.

As for the maths, someone recommended Engineering Mathematics by Stroud, current edition is 7th. I'm working through it at the moment coupled with Paul's online maths notes as it explains a lot of the stuff quite well. Imperial sent some stuff through as well, it's a maths worksheet from the consolidation and seepage lecture with a few references at the end. Happy to forward it you if they didn't send it to you.

What did you do for your undergrad? Have you done any soil mechanics before?

Hey! My undergrad was on civil engineering but I really need to refresh my soil mechanics. I wasnt sent any maths notes so please forward it if you could. I also found yesterday some reading lists for the course and I started reading "Finite element analysis in geotechnical engineering". I wouldnt worry too much about the seismic stuff for now as for soil mechanics and maths. What was your undergad?

Are there any more geotechnical engineering books to be read? Can you send me the reading list as well? Thanks man and good luck to all of us!

Hey there! I was told to read some soil mechanics textbooks like Powrie's, Craig's or Atkinson's. The reading lists I found are on the university site, just google "imperial soil mechanics course syllabus". There is a reading list for each module. Good luck to you too!
Me! I’m very excited for it. Only a couple of months left..
Just found this forum. I am also attending the course but i wasn’t told to study before we attend. So if you have notes, can you like, share?
Oh I’m definitely attending. But why am i not excited? :frown:
Three months left and I only studied some parts of soil mechanics.
I don’t think I’m going to attend. Something came up. Too bad. :frown:
