I would think that you would have to buy the papers personally, since Greek is such a hard subjects that very few people actually do it.
Thanks for replying...

I never wanted papers...lol...but thanks anyway...

I was just wondering whether there is anybody on this website...anywhere, who does A level Greek???

Jack.

Hi I'm doing Modern Greek. How come u r taking this A'level? R u half greek or something? I did Samaraki and Kavafi for section 2? What about u? I am a bit worried about this section. Even though greek is supposed to be my first language i went to an english speaking school after finishing primary school. So i kinda forgotten my greek and so i am a bit worried of how my essays are going to turn out.
Yay!!! Mariannie!!!

Both my parents are from Cyprus...

I do Kavafi and Samaraki in section Two as well!!!

Oh my God...the questions are really hard though...but I'm hoping my AS 285/300 from last summer really acts as a safety net to boost my grade (even if I do quite poorly in the A2 paper).

Have you done the A-Level already? When did you do the AS? What did you get?

JACK

I did the AS during the summer of 2004 but i am doing the a2 this friday. I havent started revising yet. I got 280 at the AS. U got more than me at AS i bet u dont speak greek so often as I do. (this shows u how much i suck at greek) Its really good. Well done. I know I am worried too. I am hoping that they will put some of the essays we did at school. Which town of Cyprus r ur parents from?
YOU'RE REALLY GOOD IF YOU GOT 280!!!

YOU DON'T SUCK...

HOWCOMES YOU NEVER TOOK THE A LEVEL LAST JUNE (SINCE YOU DONE THE AS IN 2004)...

YEAH...I AINT REVISED EITHER...I HAVE GCSEs EVERYDAY THIS WEEK...I DON'T HAVE TIME TOO!!!

SECTION TWO IS F***ED UP!! LOL...BOTH MY PARENT ARE FROM "ACHERITOU"...IT'S IN "AMMOCHOSTOS"/// IT'S UNDER TURKISH OCCUPATION NOW THOUGH...

I SPEAK GREEK TO MY MUM AT HOME (SHE KNOWS LITTEL ENGLISH...LOL)...

I REALLY HOPE THE ESSAY QUESTIONS THIS YEAR ARE NOT AS HARD AS LAST YEAR'S...THOSE QUESTIONS WERE MAD...

WHAT PRACTISE ESSAYS YOU DONE AT GREEK SCHOOL?...WHICH GREEK SCHOOL DO YOU GO TO?...WHO'S YOUR GREEK TEACHER???

Boy u ask too many questions! Well basically I go to a private school American Academy Larnaca( i am graduating this year). The school decided that it would be best for the students to do the AS together with the GCSES so that those who would have not continued at alevel would have an extra AS.

I just started revising. Hope it doesnt take long. GCSEs were hell. I found alevels much easier! Good luck!! Hope u do well!
sorry for asking questions...

it's just that i live in London...and there are not very many people who do greek a level here...most quit after gcse...

what poems have you done for cavafy?

what did you get in your gcse's...how many people do greek a level at your school?

please reply and answer my questions...
I wish i was good enough to do even GCSE greek. im half greek (dads from Evia) and lived in aTHENS for a year when i was 10 went to a local school knowing nothing which was **** (teacher hit me lol mum went crazy) then got sent to a "school for repatriated greek students" full of americans so didn't get to learn too much. Takin a gap year to my ygia ygias place to redeem my inadequecy! Good luck with the exams anyway

We have done many poems, eg ITHAKI, ALEXADRINOI VASILEIS, KERIA, THERMOPYLES, ENAS GEROS and many others. (it would take ages to write all the poems. Do u go to a greek school in london? Did u live in Cyprus at all before u moved to London cos ur greek must be excellent.
We can do only 8 GCSESs at my school. I did: RS (A), ENGLISH (A), MODERN GREEK (A), MATHS (A), GEOGRAPHY (A*), DOUBLE SCIENCE (A*A*), ECONOMICS (A).

In my year there are about 98 students, which I think about 50 are taking this alevel.

But i have to say that it is nice hearing that greek-cypriots are keeping in touch with their greek.

Have u noticed at all how greek cypriots in the uk convert english words to greek. My relatives do that lots. eg bill to billi or bus to buso

Its never too late to catch up with ur greek. All u need is will and u will be able to do it.
Don't worry about it...you're still Greek at heart!!!

Marienne...nope I have never lived in Cyprus (wish I did though)...although I did visit a few times when I was younger...(staying at my yiayia's for almost 6 weeks sometimes! - all my mum's family lives in Cyprus...all my Dad's family (which is still Cypriot)...movied to England after the Turkish Invasion...

Yeah! I go to a Greek school in London...I've been going since I was about 5/6 and now I'm 26!!!...So it's taken 10 years and a lot of hard work for me to achieve my A* in Greek GCSE (which I done when I had jus turned 13)...and my 285/300 for the AS came with writing one essay and translation every 2 weeks (approx.), for 1 year...

I really love being Greek cypriot...I can get everything from Greek food...meet Greek people...live my life as a Greek...but the only thing that's missing is fluency in Greek..and that's what I'm trying to achieve by doing A Level.

At my school...I do 14 GCSEs (including Modern Greek which I done ages ago)...and, as you know, I do A Level Greek too!!!

Anyway, I have to go and revise now...I have Edexcel GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics today!!!

Good lucky in your Greek A Level Marienne - you'll get your 'A'!!!
I hope I do too! I'm worried because I haven't had time to revise...I've had and still have GCSEs everyday this week and loads next week too!!!

Me agapi...Yiagovos

GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi! It was good but i could have done better. I found the translation a bit hard. For kavafi i did the one about history and for samaraki the one with the title. What about u? But i am a bit worried that i may lose a lot of marks for spelling. Seriously i completely forgot my spelling. I am so used in writing in english that i forgot my greek.

How did your other exams go?

I cant wait for the exams to finish! I cant wait to go to the beach!
Two weeks left and it will all be over!

Hey...yeah i thought the translation was really hard...the text at the beginning was soooo ****!!!...what a loads of rubbish...i never liked the question that was 3 marks about the "thema"...the translation was MADNESS!!!...what the hell!!! tightly knit???...those words were crazy...

I done the one about the "brosoba" for Kavafy...(both questions were really good)...and for Samaraki i done the one about the title too!!!...the other one was good too, but the one about titles was easier...

I really hope we got A's...even though we only need C's to get A's overall *because of our high AS scores (thank God)...the funny thing is, I was expecting to find section Two harder, but section One turned out to be the killer!!!...

My other exams went okay..reply back to me...what poems did you write about and what stories did you write about for samaraki???

Do you think this years papers was harder than usual or the same?
Reply 18
Looking at some past papers the questions for section 2 used to be much harder but the questions for section 1 much easier. But overall i think this year they made section 2 more straightforward and section 1 extremely hard.

For kavafi i used the poems, Alexandrinoi vasileis, thermopyles and apoleipein o theos antonios. For samaraki, i used i kontra, moko re and i teleutaia simetoxi. U?

I know, that first passage was really hard. I really did not know what they were looking for!

I am so glad that greek is over and i never have to analyse another poem. Ate just 8 more exams to go! All my exams r in the same week and i really dont know how i am going to cope!

Do u still have many exams?

For the "brosoba" question...I wrote about:

1) H Maxh Ths Magnesias - Filippos 5th (and some stuff about Antiochos 3rd)
2) En Sparth - Kleomenis and Kratisikleia
3) Apolipin O Theos Andonion - Andoni (symbolic brosobo)

For the Kontra question I wrote about:

1) H Kontra
2) Moko Re
3) Fistikia Aiginis (but I should have written about Teleutaia Symmetochi instead, because I found myself writing similar stuff for this one and Kontra)

Yeah...you're right...Section One was the hardest it's ever been...but Section Two was average hardness....it's only last years that was more difficult.

Let's hope the grade boundaries drop because of this...

I've got a few exams left...finishing on June 23rd (with GCSE Economics)...some people I've heard from said they found the translarion really hard too...so don't worry about it...

Afterwards I'm off to the USA!!!
