    Hey

I've been accepted to read Mechanical engineering with Business Finance at UCL and was wondering if anyone knows how UCL is rated in this department. I've also been accepted to Kings, Queen Marys, Nottingham, Edinburgh and Greenwich are any of these better than UCL?

oh also are there any other females applying for engineering this year?

    thanx

Errr, I'd definitely rule out all the others apart from nottingham, which may be quite good. But then again I'm not sure.

edinburgh is probably the best department at engineering from your choices, but i think on the finance side, ucl is better

In the various league tables for universities written by the Guardian, Times, etc. Nottingham, Bath, Bristol and Imperial all seem to be consistently in the top 5 or so for Mech Eng. Edinburgh is also very highly rated. UCL tends not to be mentioned so much.
I would recommend having another look at Nottingham especially as they allow you to choose a wide variety of specialisations if you're going for a MEng, in your case there's the "Mechanical Engineering (Business)" course, which may suit you.

    hi dormonkey,

i have applied to do the very same course as you at ucl. first person i have met who is doing the same as me!

out of the universities you have mentioned I would quite confidently say that edinburgh and ucl are the best. i dont know how well they teach mech eng at edinburgh, but I hear electrical is nice. UCL has one of the best spark-ignition engine labs out of all UK universities, which is important as if you are interested in this sort of thing, you want to be in the best place possible!

and as you are doing finance too, not much can beat the LSE for finance (which is where this side of the course is going to be taught).

about the question regarding the female population studying engineering - somone asked this on my interview day, and apparentely there always are a few girls doing mech eng, but it is dominated by blokes.

emma - do you use msn messenger? if not please email me:

[email protected] . I would like to have at least one contact from my course before i start

    thanks
