Meaning of life?

I can't find the meaning of life, why am I here?

I think about what I've got, friends, family, a future, and yes, its all there. But this still doesn't stop me thinking about suicide. Whats the point in doing things if I know its going to end in death anyway? I know I'm going to die, so why not get it over with now?

Do I need help? No matter how much I think about the good things in my life, I still can't see the point in why I am here and why I shouldn't just quit now.

you sound like you need a holiday.

go book a holiday somewhere you really like, with people you really like then just sit and look at whats all around you, then you'll realise what its all about.
Yes, you will die eventually, but there are a few decades of life between now and then, and that's where all the interesting things happen! OK, you won't appreciate it after you die (unless you believe in some form of afterlife, which you obviously don't) but enjoy it while you can!

There is a point to life, but no point to a life never lived...
Mate Feed Kill Repeat.
dont think so negatively.. i mean sometimes when things are bad in life (really bad) it's understandable to question the purpose/meaning of life but this shouldnt be the case all the time.. just relax and dont think about it so much.. i understand where you're coming from but that just shows that you are aware that you will die (most people seem to forget that), thus will make the best of the time you have (i would think).. anyway get some rest, and yeah maybe go on holiday or some place you associate fond, happy memories with.. just dont give up on yourself/ your life..
if you think about it.. who would you really hurt if you committed suicide.. not yourself that much but it would devastate your family and friends.. just don't do it. Please?

Read some philosophy. I was interested in some of the things like that so I chose a philosophy module as my elective. I find it really interesting, if a little unconstructive.

And you're trying to find the answer on TSR of all places?

I happen to have had the same thoughts as you some years back; I guess we all do as some point in our lives. That's the sort of existensial questions which, if we try hard enough and long enough, give us the answers we seek.

In short, the meaning of YOUR life is precisely to find that meaning.

Life's a game;
Play for keeps,
or play for fun;
But don't forget to play!

You're going to die anyway, so why not "milk this baby for all its worth" as a very articulate friend of mine once put it!

If that doesn't work, i suggest you think about all the loved ones you'll be prematurely leaving if you killed yourself.

If that doesnt work, slap yourself with a fish coated in butter!.... come on! life's fun most of the time, I mean i'm hardly one to talk if you've ever read my depressing threads!

but there's humour in life (note my third suggestion, although i probably wasnt funny!) and, if theres an after life, you would regret not living this life to the full!

So please, dont through your life away! I've felt the same many a time, but thats mainly because ive felt alone, but theres always someone in your life, your family will always be there for you. And so what if there's no "meaning", just try and enjoy it all the more!

Smile, find love, be happy, be true, be you, do what you love, stand up to what you hate, and never forget that you are not alone

i may use tht as a signature now!

People seem to have the right idea here
The whole concept of life and the human race is fairly depressing if you think about it in any detail.

The least we can do is go out with a blast.

42. It had to be said.

But really, I don't see life having a meaning. It's just, well, life. Something between birth and death which you might as well take advantage of and have a bit of fun.

Yes! I too am glad that we all more or less agree about life! it shows that we are all optimists, but i guess most students are! Life can get us really down, I've been in that state for a good 8 months, but you have to keep going!

There are some things that you will never forget, the defining moments in your life, that you'll look back on with a smile, no matter what the moments were about! Like my first birthday present in 8 years, or my first kiss.... I'd gladly repeat the whole of my life again just to experience those unique feelings, but that's what life's about! no going back! so we shouldnt look back either.

Life is probably the worst kind of existence there is, with the exception of all the others that have been tried. Sigh.

just a thought: what a guy whose supposed to be suicidal think he's doing right now on the thread "female masturbation"?

:ditto: I feel exactly the same way. However i've decided against suicide mainly because it might fail and then i'd be even worse off. Plus i don't like pain.

meaning of life = 42

it can be whatever you want it to be. you make your own path, you can't ask us why you should live

I have to chuckle every time I read that. That phrase was something randomly invented by the writer of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy when he was bored! People are like 'yeah, meaning of life, 42!!' (I know you're saying it in jest, but some people don't!)

The means to continued life is depressing - mate, kill, feed, repeat - but the drive behind human nature is brilliant. We progress. We strive to have something better than we have and that is fantastic.
