okay...im from canada so i dont understand what you guys are saying when you use the term "stone" when referring to weight...what does it mean?

Its just a measurement, there are 14 pounds in 1 stone. You lot measure in kg I don't really know them.

is there a difference between american lbs and british lbs?

Reply 3

No

Reply 4

For reference, 2.2lbs = 1kg
and 1 stone = 6.35 kilograms

Ah - no, KG are the way forward. The seem friendlier.
Sounds crazy - but my weight is an even number in KG and odd in lb - therefore, kg are better.

Reply 10

Normally with things like this I plump for the SI unit, as it's normally derived from some kind of funamental constant. But this isn't the case for kg, so ... meh, whatever.

Reply 11

I've moved over to measuring weight in kg since I started rowing. Though they still write weights on blades (if you get them) in stones/lbs

Reply 12

KG mean nothing to me. And when americans give the total weight all in lbs (eg 135lbs) I have to sit there and translate it into stone for it to have any relevence to me.

Reply 13

I can deal with kg and stone, but everything in lbs confounds me, too. SI is the way forward, though.

Reply 14

Kg is the best.

Long live SI

Reply 15

Gonna sound stupid - whats SI?

Check out this.
Abbreviated from Système International d'Unités, it's a proper standard set of units that make sense

KG rules...stones and pounds and yards and the lot just confuse me! what ever happened to measuring in kilometers or meters?! :p:

Reply 18

So SI is just basically metric?

Reply 19

Just remember, Sticks and stones may break your bones, but Kilograms will never hurt you.
