TOK: Knowledge Boundaries

I have tok essay, and i need some ideas because my current essay is too short; the topic (from N06 & M07) is:

Topic 3: If someone claims that both the division of knowledge into disciplines and the division of the world into countries on a map are artificial, what does this mean? What is the nature of the boundaries between Areas of Knowledge, in your view?

Any help, ideas, comments, argument appreciated, thanks in advance...

hmm. is it like even though the countries are divided they form one "earth". just like even though knowledge is divided, they point to the same place? -shrugs- lol

...One needs to think about this a lot (sorry, dont have the time...), therefore i will not attempt to advice you on what to write. However, i came to think of an example that MIGHT be suitable: taxonomy in biology (division of organisms into cateogories)...its artificial and constructed in order to satisfy the human urge for classification and organization.

Maybe you can use this somehow..dont know..its rather late =) ...

Maybe you could include that it heavily relies on perception, and the limits' limits (hehe, sounds funny) is language itself. Setting imaginary boundaries between what's right and what's wrong (Ethics) is something that can cause a lot of controversies - and in several cases the root of the problem breaks down into mere semantics. Just thought it'd be nice to consider the WoK so you can incorporate them in an argument where you're essentially discussing AoK only ... I think there's a criterion looking for that?
I hope that made some sense :s-smilie:... oopsie? hehe... It's been over a year since I last wrote my TOK essay

Mine was due a week ago, it was pretty bad I thought. This question is pretty much a brainstorming of ideas. This is cos you aren't looking at the AOK or the WOK but their nature. So I didn't find reseach helping that much. Wait...oh yeah the English Philosopher John Locke had a bit work on this so yeah, you could also look into that.

I'm doing this one as well...it appealed to me cos it's got the analogy of the countries on a map, so not too abstract.

@ Saray: I feel a lot better now, since I came up with the idea of taxonomy and (over?)classification in Biology myself. Now that I've read that someone else had the same idea, it makes me feel more secure...

Any more ideas anyone?

:frown: I chose this question thinking no one had the bravery to attempt it:P hehe... excuse me it's all a part of my understanding that the world revolves around me:P... i'll get over myself eventually....

I'm not much a science person, so I wouldn't know any fancy shmancy bio words:P but what I'm going to do is discuss the boundries of the limitations of the AOKs and WOKs in setting boundires in our knowledge...

I guess it has somthing to do with somthing:P...
