The New Scientist magazine usually has a lot of vacancies for science jobs... try checking this out.

I wouldn't of thought it would be that difficult for a chem graduate to get a job - I thought that there was not enough chemists

:frown:

I've already tried that. I was hoping someone would suggest companies like pwc or ernst&young if someone was searching for accounting companies.

but for chemical companies, its very difficult to find particular companies

Loads I should think?

Petroleum companies (ExxonMobil?), research institutions, etc.

You don't have to do a Chemistry-related job just because you did chemistry, BTW.

but they're not easy to find

Petrol companies want chemical engineers not chemists
I have tried to convince my friend to look at Zurich and other similar companies as they too like science graduates - but she wants a chemistry job
Is your friend limiting herself to London? That might be the problem. Most of the general grad schemes will look favourably upon a chemistry degree.

The chemical industry is mostly based in the industrial north of England however there are companies such as pfizer in Kent and P&G in egham. However you are wrong about petrol companies. Check out shell for instance.

Check out GSK. They recuit chemistry graduates.
http://www.jobs.ac.uk might be worth a look

London is an ideal situation but she is willing to drive to around SE England. Though most of the jobs I can find are near Manchester or in Scotland.
I've checked GSK and couldn't find anything suitable - have checked that site in the past.
Tried jobs.ac.uk but can't find jobs, only phd scolarships etc.
I really do appreciate all your help and advice  :tsr2:

Atomic Weapons Establishment take on chem graduates without PhDs - my friend got in there with an MChem 4year course:
http://www.awe.co.uk/main_site/careers/index.html

It's worth looking at the websites of all the companies that advertise in the New Scientist:
http://www.camcoscientific.co.uk/vacancies.php?search=Chemist

Like beer?
http://www.brewingresearch.co.uk/BRI.htm

3M UK is a diverse company covering Electronics, Health Care, Industrial chemistry:

Then there's:
Merck, Sharp & Dohme just north of london in Hertfordshire

If you need a temp job to get experience then there are these agencies:
