Anyone else going to uni in the same city that you live?

My great journey to uni is going to be all of a 20 minute bus ride away from home. Anyone else going to uni in the same city that you grew up? What do you think are the pros and cons of doing this? Sometimes I worry that I'll be missing out on totally moving away from home, gaining a real sense of independence but at the same time I'll be comfortable from the start.

Any thoughts?

Going to go to a local university too, but I'll be moving out. I've done lots of moving, so I'm quite sick of "new places".

The benefits will probably be knowing where everything is, and being able to give advice on going out and stuff.
I live in Luton. Somehow don't think that would have been a good idea

i'm going to Leeds met. I live in ilkley, which is 30 minutes from leeds. I'm still moving into halls, and don't see the problem. Leeds has everything i want so i thought choosing a lesser city just for the sake of being able to be somewhere "new" for a few weeks or whatever [until it all becomes familiar] would be a mistake. There is still alot to discover in leeds, living there will be totally different, as currently if terms of nights out, its a special occasion staying out late because of taxi costs home. That won't be an issue any more and i look forward to it

I don't at the moment, although I am not far away, but I am thinking of doing my PGCE at Chester as it is closer to home, I can save money, and I might still have a job in a school nearby, it all depends though.

I was thinking about this. I kind of want to apply to either Oxford or Cambridge, just to give it a go and see, its got to be worth a try. But I already live in Oxford. Now, if I didn't live in Oxford I think I would have chosen it over Cambridge, but I do, so what do you think? Worth applying to Oxford (because I think it's nicer) or Cambridge (becasue it's a new place to go to)???

I'd say Oxford, unless you really like Cambridge. There is no point in going to a uni you don't like, you need to enjoy yourself. If that means applying to Oxford then go for it!
Yeah im going to my local uni it will take me 45mins to get there. At first i was a bit worried that i would be missing out but now it does not bother me.

I'm going to a uni which is about a 45 minute drive away from where I live. I do sometimes worry about missing out on quite a bit of the uni life, especially since it's suppose to be one of the best experiences you have. I did think about going to a uni further away from home but at the age of 23 (when I start) I reckon I would get sick of the full-on uni life (like a friend of mine, who's the same age, has decided to rent a one-bedroom flat for uni this coming September because she likes her own space). Plus, I've just moved in with my boyfriend so don't really want to move away from him and the uni I'm going to is supposed to be one of the best for teaching training in the area.

So to sum it up, I'm happy to be going to a uni close to home. If I were a few years younger then it might have been a different story.
