M1 Jan 06 Edexcel question
I've attached the Jan 06 paper and markscheme. I don't understand 7c at all. I have no idea where to start. I don't get how the markscheme got 2Tcos60.

Well, the force on the pulley from the string comes from the tension T
So you can add the vector forces of the two strings, or you can say simply that the horizontal compts cancel each other so we´re only interested in the vertical.
Vertical compt is Tsin30 or Tcos 60, and there are two of them so the answer is 2Tcos60, vertically down.
