Why am I interested in bad news?

Ive always been interested in negative things and look them up sometimes online ie wars, plane crashes, holocaust etc and it makes me upset and feel bad so why do I look them up:confused: Ive no idea, I think its makes me feel more grateful and so puts me in a better mood but is anyone else like this? I feel guilty and twisted every time I look things up but I don't understand. Also why do people watch murder films for entertainment I don't get that either. Anyway is there something wrong with me?

"All news is bad news", or it certainly seems that way. I usually take an interest in the news and it's almost certainly about a terrorist suspect, indiscrimate killing, rape, paedophile, suicide etc etc.

In general not good, hard to avoid, yet strangely informative. It's life :frown:

No, there's nothing wrong with you...you're only curious about the world around you(and the majority of news today is morbid anyways)...nought wrong with that

True it seems that bad news makes good news, but its like I always like to put myself in the victims position and go through all the feelings that they went through and then return to the safe reality, it makes me feel better and secure rather than bored and depressed. People are supposed to get depressed by bad news not the other way round lol.

If it makes you feel better - its not great, morally, but its not bad.

I originally started thinking that this was a form of self-harm - "Clockwork Orange" - esque. But then you said that it made you happier, more grateful.

Just stop if you ever feel too negative about it, is all I'd say.

At least you're not like someone I know who loves negative things; they speak about them like you found them in a gossip rag and so talk about them this way, in a hushed fascination, as though they are all really mature because they can do this.:nn:

When I heard that the police were looking for a chemical weapon after raiding that house in London the other day, part of me was hoping that there was one, just for the excitement. I felt really bad and guilty afterwards, 'cause I knew the devastation it could cause :frown:

Do you think that your life is boring? Are you looking for the bad news to provide adventure, do you think?

You basically find enjoyment in others misery. But instead of the sick twisted way, it's a more placid way.

The most recent Modest Mouse albums is entitled "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" It's human nature to be curious, and you can tell by the types of story that the media run nowadays that a lot of people are obsessed with the morbid.

Hell, sometimes, I get paranoia out of boredom. I just start thinking there is someone in my house, or try and scare myself some other way, just because every day life is dull. I think it was Goethe that said "A man can withstand anything but a succession of ordinary days" or something along those lines.

why are you interested in bad news?

answer: because you're human

simple ...

do you notice that the "bad things" about something always catch our eyes first? its just human psychology
