When I came to Cambridge my aim in life was to get a Double First. Now my aim in life is to someday be a Mod on TSR. How things change...
A double first Lol..
Mine were: a) get into Cambridge. followed by ... 'oh crap, I'm in #zomg#'... erm erm erm b) stay in and don't get kicked out ..and then after a erm, stirring speech by our Senior Tutor at our Matriculation ceremony: c) avoid a 2.2
Lol when I'd just met all my housemates for the year, an English friend declared his intent to produce the best first essay that his supervisor would have seen. We all watched him in hushed concern for the first few days I resigned myself to the notion that my first essay would be a disaster..which has meant only pleasant surprises, never huge disappointment.
Can we make a pact to return to our respective colleges and kill anybody who got a first without trying? The world would be a better place. Or, at least, we'd all become relatively more clever.

A former student came to one of our Superhalls this term. He'd got all firsts without doing anything. He was a right cocky lad too Law..

But how do you KNOW they didn't try? Everyone claims to not work, but also works in their room, etc. etc. and does more than they say!
To quote Dr Frank King "Starred first is simply a way to attract people to do lame subjects"... not my words. Ask the man himself if you wish. He's the guy in charge of all clocks in the university... so he says. The man is a legend though... at least to us uber geeks (I'm not that uber... but I'd like to think I'm a geek... being compsci and all...)
Sorry this is unrelated to getting multiple firsts but Dr King is not that much of a legend, he lectures the compulsory computer course for IA NatSci without even bothering to check the prerequisites, started going on about Fourier series in the first lecture. Most people fall asleep within the first 20mins and the attendance has been declining from lecture to lecture...he is funny though, when taking about his clocks
