Of course they are joking hmm i guess most people would say st annes? But i haven't been there so wouldn't really know what it was like to walk through. There's a gun shop in Radford. xx

Not attempting to scare anyone, but there were two boys hiding out in my girlfriend's back garden carrying a gun last Friday. And this was in Dunkirk(a fairly close area to the University).
But I think that's just one of those exceptional things and probably incredibly unlikely to ever happen to someone unless you're part of the unlucky minority.

better have it organized in a shop and use the proceeds to finance the University that have the money go to the local drug lords.
I don't think the university runs the gun shop in radford! I drive past it everyday, it would make an excellent photo I'll have to take my camera some time.
Nottingham is like any other city. All cities have the bad areas, e.g. Moss Side in Manchester. If you go looking for trouble then you will definetly find it.
God some of you people talk like as if soon as you get off the bus to St Anns someone is holding a gun to your face. Nottingham is a city full of friendly and sound people.
I live in Greater Manchester which is just as bad as Nottingham. People got their stuff robbed in quiet Bolton before christmas at my halls, which shows you ain't safe anywhere really. There are drugs and guns anywhere you go.
I'd just be careful meaning: don't flaunt your phone and ipod in public, don't leave your windows open, don't go fighting in the street or walk alone at night. There might be an innocent victim (as said) but thats on very rare occasions and as horrible as it may sound: **** happens everywhere.
nah, you should join a gang for protection - everyone does - it's just something you'll come to accept. The initiation can be a bit harsh, but it's worth it.

I come from Norwich.. where the work 'crime' is pretty much unnecessary.. i expected it to be a bit rough but i was pleasantly surprised.
Campus is pretty safe really.. i spent hours walking around it on my own in the dark (i lived in Derby hall and my boyfriend was in Ancaster) but i kept to well lit areas and there was no trouble. Also if youre worried about mugging, request a room that isn't on the ground floor. If you're female they'll move you.
if youre at Raleigh Park or St Peters Court you're in a bit of a rough area.. dont walk around alone outside campus at silly hours. get the bus.
Outside of Campus just be sensible.. avoid the forest area, Radford, St. Annes, Meadows. try not to walk around alone in the dark.. dont walk around with your mobile on display. Keep your house locked, and if your house has any security risks moan to your landlord. Its really not as bad as it seems though.. ive walked from the city home to Dunkirk (including the underpass) after gigs before and never had any trouble. Dunkirk is safer than Lenton.. its friendly too.. Geoff and his brother from the corner shop looks after us
it's probably more dangerous where I live now than in Nottingham! So many loony farmers, who quite frankly are more than a sandwich short of a picnic, running about with guns...and we've got wild boar and big cats roaming around apparently. I'm retreating from kent to Nottingham for safety :P
Neither me nor any of my friends have ever accountered any form of crime, mugging, stabbing, shotting or otherwise.
Me and my best friend Craig were pretty close a couple of times ... Once we were in Clifton, at a garage and some guy was taking a large amount of interest in my friend's bike helmet (which he was carrying) but we walked there, oddly enough, well basically he intimidated us and Craig make the joke "I'm saving up for the rest [i.e. the bike]" which was rather amusing, and the knuckle dragging neanderthal was confused and irritated and walked off.
Another time, we were on the bus and these guys were asking for money, we said no, of course, and they started intimidating us and all those things you expect in big cities. So when we got off Craig waved friendily at the thugs, which made them look furious in the back window, haha. It was so funny. Basically if you try and amuse or humour thugs (even if they did look like they were about 16) it is usually better than getting aggressive.
