Tattoo on ankle - advice please!

I'm thinking about getting a tattoo on my ankle, does anyone have one and can give me some information about it?

Mostly I'm thinking about the pain, lol. I have heard that it hurts a lot more so than in another place because there is no fat in this area and also because it's close to bone. Can anyone give me info on the pain of it!!! (You don't have to act all hard and say 'it doesn't hurt at all' for the sake of it cos we're on the net and no one is gonna judge you :p: lol)

Also I've read that sometimes they fade very quickly (I guess maybe because it's in a place that is moving quite a lot?) - is that true?

Any other information is appreciated too!

NB: Before I get told off and have this post moved, I was gonna post it in the fasion and beauty section but I hate the idea of people getting tattoos for 'fasion' and I consider it more of a health issue!!

I think tattoos are only for fashion - I mean you usually get one so it looks nice right?
Mine's on my hip and it didn't hurt really, even though it's close to the bone. My mate's got one on her ankle and it didn't hurt that much for her. If you take care of it properly when it's first done it shouldn't fade except with age.

Don't do it, in 30 years time it'll go all nasty and you'll be that old woman you always see in the supermarket with the wrinkley tatoo.

It stings/burns for a little bit but then, and I'm not kidding, it actually feels nice. Well it did for me on both my Tat's.

The fading quickly comes from poor workmanship i.e. crap tattooist. So check around friends/family etc hear what they say about theirs.

As for Tat's being a fashion, I guess for some yes. but for others they have a deep meaning and signify something important in their life.

As for the old person with tat's well i hope that when I'm old i will not care what people think of my body, so it doesn't matter

Cause I know I always stare at peoples ankles when I go out...My theory on my tattoo's was always that if I'm showing off my hips when I'm a granny, I probably deserve to look grotesque.

I actually found that my tattoos on my hips, which don't touch the bone, were more uncomfortable. Having them on the bone just feels like being scratched hard. It's not particularly nice, but it's definitely not unbearable and cause it's a fairly constant pain you do get used to it after a few minutes.

I can imagine that your ankle might be quite uncomfortable when it scabs over during healing though...

www.bmezine.com has lots of tattoo pics and stories on, i found it v helpful when researching before mine =)

i guess pain is relative. i got a tattoo on the inside of my left wrist about a month ago. i was told because it was near the bone on over tendons it would hurt like hell-it honestly didn't...and i wouldn't have any worries admitting to it hurting if it had =P i guess the best advice i got on the pain aspect was "it will hurt, but not as much as you expect"...there was actually a sign up in the parlour saying "yes they hurt!" lol. hmm if you're getting it on a place that gunna have a lot of movement like a joint, they will fade quicker than others due to *wear and tear* like most wrist tattoos (90%) need touchups, i actually want some of the lines going over on mine. but i agree, if u look after it it will fade less quickly, like remember to cover it with lotion in the sun etc. the redness on mine hadnt faded with in an hr, it barely scabbed and healed realllly quickly so i think it's definately important to research your artist and the piece! i personally LOVE tattoos, as long as they mean something =) i guess there's still bits of the stereotypes around about them only being for bikers lol. hmm i'm done babblying now, good luck! pc xXx

i cant wait to have mine done, but im having mine on my forarm so i cant compare it painwise, iv heard however that it isnt to bad. (i mean alot of people get it done and finished so it cant be that bad!)
i was thinking about the idea of what it would look like when im old and i dont want to look like an ex-con! i want to look down at my tats and think of all the hopes and dreams of my youth, like a message to myself as an older person, i dont want to think that i was a stupid kid getting somthing fashionable.

anyone seen memento?

I have a tatoo on my right ankle, had it done when I was 21, to be honest it did hurt but dont they all ( also have one on my left upper arm). It hasnt faded that much either, which is good considering its age.If you want a tatoo , get one,its your body!!!!!

Don't do it! you'll regret it in a few years when it looks tacky and out of fashion, and for the love of god don't get a tweetie pie or chinese symbol or something like that!

Reply 14

Yuck, tatoos only look nice for a few years, but faded on aging skin they are so disgusting... Do not do it.

Reply 15

why do people say "in a few years you'll regret it"?

I had mine done about 6-7 years ago and I still like them and do not regret it the slightest.

I want to get some sort of star and musical note on my upper back, but can't find any design that's even close to what I want, and I'm hopeless at drawing and stuff!lol

that's very judgemental.

painwise - i have no tattoo so i can't tell you, but everyone feels pain differently. i have a couple of piercings which a lot of people said would hurt but they were fine.

i guess if you go in expecting the worst, you'll be pleasantly surprised

I have a tattoo on my ankle and I don't remember it being especially painful. It will be more painful than a tattoo on a fleshy part though. It's impossible to say how much it will hurt as this is something totally subjective. Have you had any tattoos before?

bmezine.com is the best site to go to for all tattoo and piercing info.
