Oxbridge is heavy - think about what you're getting into

There are times- normally at 2am writing an essay having been doing the same all day- when i WISH I ahd chosen Durham instead...

Also down to the fact that I was put into St Marys (the former all girls) and there'd have been a 5:1 ratio of females to males... :p:

I'll be going to a college next year where the other 9 clinical medics in my year are all girls. Oh yes.

Not sure my street cred could take that, I'm a pretty big wheel down at the cracker factory.

Haha.

Having read Helenia's post i wonder - and i must wish her the best of luck, so many have confidence in you; believe them - going to another university than Oxbridge increases chances of getting a 2:1 or 1st by how much??

I really would like - as everyone else - to get one of these two, and preferable at camb (should i get my grades this summer) but is it so much easier at another university??

No it's not easier. I don't know the exact stats (you'll have to look them up) but something like 85/90% of people at cam come out with a 1st or 2.i. I guess that doesn't make it easier but it doesn't seem that difficult to me.

The workload is counterbalanced by the fact that you get to live in a castle!

Yep. I'd rather do a lot of work in a castle than doing nothing in a ....?

Dude the work will pay off. I cannot see a good reason why anybody would reject Oxbridge- consider how lucky you would be to get an offer. Nobody goes to Oxford expecting it to be a walk in the park and the reputation it has is second only to Harvard. Sure it might not be great working into the night but people will not regret it when they get their degree and employers are chasing after them.

The best course of action is obviously to go to oxbridge and yet have no work

This can be achieved by applying for SPS

Yes...a wonderfully enlightened opinion from someone who had no experience of an Oxbridge education and wished to spend his degree sleeping and playing sport...hardly the epitomy of an oxbridge student is it....

What is the *epitome* of an Oxbridge student?
allymcb2
True, but when measuring people of age 21 against myself I would also measure what grade they got, not just the institution its from. And if its a third I'd still think little of them (or me).

So, you don't think much of Philip Pullman then?

what does creativity have to do with academic ability?
Reply 194
A lot. In my report today all my tutors stated that creativity was my best attribute academically, because it meant I brought a different perspective and new ideas to why things happen. This wouldn't apply for physics, but for arts or discussion based subjects, creativity is key.

That is, in my mind atleast, a different form of creativity - OK, it would help you no end in your GCSE English, but I dont think creative writing is going to assist you at degree level in any subject* - creativity in analysis is a different thing.

*Unless you are an aspiring tabloid journalist...

Wouldn't an aspiring tabloid journalist require "untruthful, slanderous writing" rather than creative?

Well...I think suggesting that victoria beckham is ever likely to shag one of its readers is a fairy story  and thats what the majority of them are devoted to...
