Oxbridge is heavy - think about what you're getting into

Do you think you are better than other people simply because you graduated from oxbridge?
Reply 101
depends who the individual is...I wouldn't say better, but more valuable or capable in some fields, yes.
Ah, but then you are making an assessment on the individual not the institution. That's entirely different.
Reply 103
Not particularly - since your assesment of the individual is likely to impact your assesment of the institution, hence if your opinion is based on more than league tables then the two are one and the same.
Would you decide an institution is poor because you met a complete tool who happened to be an alumni?
Reply 105
It would lead me in that direction, yes - but I wouldn't hold judgement based on one example.

Although, that combined with a poor academic record statistically would not be, shall we say, surprising.

Surely the university that someone attends is a measure of their character.

i agree that it is a measure of one's character but it should not be taken as an absolute measure.. i'm sure even oxbridge grads have to attend job interviews like everyone else right?

You'd be surprised, it's very rare, but I've seen people get offers without them...

Yes but they usually are competing against other oxonians/tabs in the interviews. And also not everyone gets a first, so they might have to be interviewed against someone with a first from other decent unis.
Reply 110
And to everyone who said its not the only measure. Well no, it isnt. But if your 18-21 its pretty much the only, or at least the main measure you've got up to that point.

Shall we just leave it at this? Oxbridge Rulez. Period.

Anyone disagreeing, go post in another forum, because its really a waste of your and, more importantly, our time to say what y'all have been saying in this forum. No offense to any other unis, but surely, it is a bit pointless to argue your cases in this forum!

That's what a forum is for - disagreeing. There's no point to a discussion if everyone agrees.

So much in fact, that it taught you to spell incorrectly and to use Americanisms to underline your point :p:

Im taking the ":p:" in your post to mean you were only joking- because (as opposed to bcoz) if you were serious, Im truly speechless.
Indeed I was

Now there's a thought. Just because a forum is there for disagreeing (as you say), lets all just disagree about everything in life!

No.

Its so is.
(notice the perfect logic and fabolous oratorical skill with which I present my arguments- so representative of a future oxonian)

I appreciate your attempt to lighten the tone, but seriously, in what way are 'character' and academic potential related? I do worry if that's what you think - we don't need another bluefuture!!
