Can you get the marks if you crossed it out?

In the maths exam FP2 today, I had a bit of a saga on one question. I did it how I thought it should be done, and got it right. Then I though I had made a mistake, crossed it out though it was still legible, and did it a different, worse (but still correct) way - then didn't get the same answer out. Right at the end of the exam I realised I had done it right the first time, but it was too late to change it, so I sort of wrote the right answer at the end of the wrong working, trying to make it look like it had worked (it was basically just a couple of minus signs wrong I think!) Anyway what I am trying to say is should I get the marks for the crossed out work that I know is right - will the marker look at it?

Thanks

Probably not, as you write a different answer. However, you should get marks for the bits of the answer that were right, and if it was just a few minus signs that should be quite a few. You may also get the mark for the right answer.

Was your crossed out work legible? Could it be read?

Some of my teachers, who mark papers, say that if they can read it, and its right, they will mark it. However there are markers who go by the 'crossed out means the candidate doesnt want it marked' rule..

No

Probably not - next time that happens, I'd put a note next to it telling the examiner you crossed it out by accident, and do want it marked. It's worth a shot, anyhow.

On the front of the answer booklet it says cross out anything you don't want to get marked. So no

I did what Princess Ana suggested in my M1 exam and I think i got it marked cos it was legible and examiners arent 100% mean; only the Chemistry ones are.

Ok thanks for the replies everyone, I won't expect anything... maybe it will get UMS'ed up!
